First time I saw Hextech Nocturne pop up in the crafting tab I had to double-take. Nocturne skins have always been hit or miss for me, but the crystal blue and gold framework on this one caught my attention immediately. Been playing Nocturne on and off since season 5, mostly as a jungle pick when my team needs engage and the enemy locks in squishy backline comps. This skin changed how I feel about the champion in loading screen alone.
What Hextech Nocturne actually brings to the table
The model rework here is substantial for what Nocturne usually gets. His entire body shifts from the shadowy wraith aesthetic to this crystalline techno-arcane framework. Blue hexagonal energy runs through translucent panels across his arms and torso. Clean work. The blades extending from his arms look like sharpened gemstone edges rather than shadow tendrils, and in motion they catch the light on Summoner’s Rift in a way thats genuinely satisfying to watch during jungle clear.
Q leaves a trail of hextech energy on the ground. Not gonna lie, the contrast against river and green jungle terrain makes tracking the path way easier than base Nocturne’s dark trail. Might be overthinking it but I feel like I land more Qs with this skin just because I can read the hitbox better. W shield pops with a crystalline burst – short but the sound design pairs well. The passive proc on-hit has this subtle blue shimmer that reads cleanly in teamfights without being overkill.
E tether gets the full hextech treatment. Gold and blue energy links you to the target, and honestly the fear proc visual is one of the better parts of the skin. You see the hextech rings close around the enemy champion. R is where it really delivers though. Paranoia with this skin dims the map the same way but the trails you leave while diving have that signature hextech particle effect. Looks incredible when you’re coming out of fog to dive their ADC.
New recall animation too. Nocturne channels hextech energy between his blades, assembling some kind of crystal structure. Solid recall. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, which is expected for this tier honestly.
The Hextech line and how Nocturne fits
Hextech as a skinline has always been Riot’s prestige crafting collection. The whole gemstone (now Mythic Essence) gating made these feel exclusive back when they first started rolling them out. Nocturne dropped into the Hextech lineup June 11, 2020, right in the middle of season 10. I remember because I had been saving gemstones for months and this was the skin that finally made me spend them.
Francis Tneh and West Studio handled the splash. They nailed the composition – Nocturne emerging from a hextech portal with crystal shards floating around him, the gold accents popping against deep blue. Check their portfolio if you havent, the lighting work on this piece is top tier.
No chromas on this one, which tracks for Hextech skins. Riot keeps them clean, single version only. The Mythic tier means you’re looking at a special price point – no straight RP purchase. Hextech crafting only, so you need Mythic Essence to unlock it. Loot eligible if you get lucky with rerolls but I wouldn’t count on it (random aside: I’ve rerolled probably 300 skin shards across my accounts and never hit a Hextech skin from pure luck).
How it stacks against other Nocturne skins
Nocturne’s skin catalog is weird. Eternum from 2012 was the big one for years, basically his only skin with significant changes. Old God Nocturne went cosmic horror. Cursed Revenant is solid but forgettable. Hextech Nocturne sits in a strange spot because the color palette is so different from his champion identity.
That contrast is exactly why I keep coming back to it though. Played maybe 80 games with this skin last season in Diamond, mostly jungle but a few mid Nocturne games when I was feeling spicy around 1 AM on weekends. The blue VFX pop against every map skin. In teamfights where Nocturne normally blends into the chaos, Hextech reads distinctly. Your team can actually see you engaging. Could be wrong here but I think the visual clarity gives a slight competitive edge in coordinated plays, especially when you’re ulting from fog and your team needs to follow up on whatever you hit.
The skin also ages well. Three years in my rotation and the particle effects still look modern. Some older Hextech skins like Hextech Annie feel dated by comparison. Nocturne’s simpler model means the hextech overlay doesnt fight with complex geometry.
The honest take
Hextech Nocturne is a strong Mythic skin. Not the flashiest in the Hextech collection – Hextech Swain and Hextech Kassadin both go harder on the VFX – but for Nocturne specifically this is top pick for mains. The gating behind Mythic Essence means you’re making a real investment. If Nocturne is your go-to jungle pick and you’ve got the ME sitting around, spend it.
If you play Nocturne casually, like once every 20 games when you get autofilled jungle, skip it. Eternum does 80% of the job for direct RP. But for the one-tricks and the players who lock in Nocturne every game in ranked? This is the skin. The VFX are clean, the model stands out, the recall is smooth. S-tier Nocturne cosmetic. Been daily driving it since that season 10 purchase and I still dont want to swap off it.
