First game I played with Redeemed Star Guardian Xayah was a late Tuesday night around 1 AM, queued into a Diamond ranked game where my support locked in Nautilus. Not exactly the Rakan duo fantasy. But honestly the second the loading screen hit, the splash alone justified the purchase. Ina Wong and West Studio nailed the splash on this one. The whole vibe is this soft celestial glow that feels completely different from the corrupted Star Guardian version. Clean. Hopeful. Like Xayah finally stopped being edgy and remembered she’s a cosmic protector.
VFX and voice work on Redeemed Star Guardian Xayah
This is a full Legendary at 1820 RP so you’re getting the works. New voice lines, new VFX across every ability, new recall animation. The Q feathers come out in these bright pink and gold trails that read way cleaner on the Rift than the base Star Guardian purple corruption. Feels like playing a different champion honestly.
W is where I think the skin really separates itself. The attack speed steroid activation has this burst of light particles that fan out from Xayah’s wings. Hard to describe without seeing it but in a teamfight when you pop W and start throwing feathers into the backline, the visual feedback is crisp. You know exactly when it’s active.
E recall is satisfying. The feathers snap back with a golden trail and when you catch two or three enemies in a root during a gank or a river skirmish, the visual payoff hits different. Been running this in Diamond for maybe 40 games now and the root indicator feels slightly more readable than base Xayah’s E. Could be wrong here but I swear I’m hitting more roots because I can track the feather positions better.
R is the highlight. Xayah’s ult already has that untargetable outplay potential that makes ADC mains one-trick her, but the Redeemed version adds these massive golden wings during the dash. Season 13 vibes. The invulnerability window looks dramatic enough that even your teammates notice when you dodge a Zed ult with it. Laila Pyne on the voice acting carries hard too. The new VO has this determined but warm energy. Not the brooding corrupted Xayah lines, more like someone who went through it and came out the other side.
(Random aside: the recall animation where she reforms her Star Guardian familiar might be my favorite recall in the game right now.)
Star Guardian Season 4 and the redemption arc
Released October 11, 2023. Star Guardian Season 4 brought a bunch of skins but the Redeemed versions of Xayah and Rakan were the ones people actually cared about. The original Star Guardian Xayah dropped back in 2019 with the whole corruption storyline and it took Riot four years to give us the payoff.
Kinda feels like the skin exists more for the narrative than the gameplay changes, but that’s not a bad thing. Star Guardian as a skinline has actual lore investment. Xayah going from corrupted to redeemed is a complete arc and the visual design reflects it. The feathers shift from dark purple to radiant gold and pink. The outfit loses the edgy torn aesthetic for something more put-together.
No chromas on this one which I think is the right call. Legendary skins with chromas always feel weird to me. The color palette here is deliberate and part of the story. You dont want a green Redeemed Star Guardian Xayah running around. That defeats the whole point of the redemption visual language.
Still in the shop at 1820 RP. Permanent availability so no rush, but I’d say if you’re a Xayah main this is the one to own. My Xayah one-trick friend in Diamond grabbed it day one and hasnt switched off since.
How it plays compared to other Xayah skins
Real talk though. Xayah has a lot of skins now. Brave Phoenix exists at Legendary tier too. Elderwood is solid for the price. Arcana has its fans. But Redeemed Star Guardian Xayah does something none of the others do: it makes Xayah feel heroic instead of just cool.
Every other Xayah skin leans into the rebel aesthetic. Sharp feathers, dark colors, attitude. This one goes the opposite direction. Bright. Warm. The abilities feel like you’re protecting your team rather than just doing damage. Not sure if it’s just me but I play more peel-oriented with this skin on. Might be the visual suggestion of the golden particles.
Played maybe 15 ranked games last week with this skin specifically. The pre-6 lane phase looks gorgeous because even her basic attack feathers have the updated particles. CSing feels smooth. The auto attack animation has a slightly different cadence visually, nothing that affects gameplay but it looks refined. Late-game scaling Xayah teamfights with this skin are a light show in the best way.
One thing that surprised me: the skin looks better on lower graphics settings than you’d expect. Some Legendary skins lose their appeal when you drop to medium for competitive play but Redeemed Star Guardian keeps the golden feather trails readable even on reduced particle settings. That matters when you’re trying to track feather positions for E roots in a messy 5v5 at dragon pit.
Should you buy Redeemed Star Guardian Xayah?
Verdict time. 1820 RP well spent for mains. Full stop. New VO, new VFX on every ability, a recall that actually tells a story, and a visual identity that stands completely apart from every other Xayah skin in the catalog. If you played the original Star Guardian Xayah and wanted the narrative closure, this is it.
Not gonna lie, if you’re not into the Star Guardian universe the skin might feel less special. The appeal is partially tied to caring about the corrupted-to-redeemed arc. But even purely on visual merit this is S-tier Xayah cosmetic. The golden feathers pop against every map terrain, the ult animation is the most dramatic version of Xayah R in the game, and the voice lines add personality that base Xayah just doesn’t have.
Skip it if you already own Brave Phoenix and only play Xayah occasionally. But if you main her, if you’re the person who locks in Xayah regardless of comp and spams her in solo queue – this is the skin. Top pick for Xayah mains and honestly one of the better Legendary releases from 2023.
