First time I saw Prestige Star Guardian Neeko load into my game, I thought someone was running a custom skin. The gold overlay on the Star Guardian template hits so different from what you’d expect. Not gonna lie, I tabbed out mid-loading screen to look up how to get it because the splash alone sold me. Rudy Siswanto nailed the splash on this one, that golden staff radiating light while Neeko strikes a pose? Clean work.
The golden Star Guardian treatment
So what actually changes here. The base Star Guardian Neeko already had solid VFX, but the Prestige version wraps everything in this warm gold and white palette that reads beautifully in teamfights. Her Q blooming petals swap from the standard green-pink to shimmering gold particles. Looks expensive. Feels expensive.
The W clone gets the same golden treatment, and honestly its harder to distinguish from the real Neeko in the chaos of a 5v5 around dragon pit. Might be overthinking it but I swear the Prestige passive shimmer when she transforms is subtler too, which actually helps her disguise in lane. Her E root projectile trails gold sparkles across the Rift, and the ult? Big golden burst. In a late-game teamfight last season I landed a 4-person ult near baron and my duo said the screen just went gold for a second.
The recall animation keeps the Star Guardian fantasy but adds this premium flair. Neeko plays with her familiar Taki in the recall, and the golden accents on both of them tie the whole thing together. Voice lines stay base, no new VO on this one. Standard for Prestige skins from that era. The outfit itself swaps the greens and pinks for white and gold with touches of rose. Crown gets upgraded. The whole silhouette screams “I spent resources on this skin and I want you to know.”
Star Guardian Season 3 and the 2019 drop
Prestige Star Guardian Neeko released September 12, 2019. Right in the middle of Star Guardian Season 3, which was one of Riot’s bigger skin events that year. The Star Guardian line already had bangers like Ahri and Jinx from previous seasons, and Season 3 brought in Neeko alongside Xayah and Rakan with that whole corrupted vs redeemed storyline.
Neeko fit the Star Guardian theme naturally. Her whole personality in the lore is this curious, playful character, and the magical girl aesthetic maps onto that perfectly. The Prestige variant was the chase piece of the event. Back in 2019, Prestige skins were still relatively new and people were grinding event tokens like crazy to unlock them. I remember spamming ARAM games that weekend trying to finish the pass (random aside: I think I played like 23 games in a row one Saturday afternoon and my hands were done).
This is a Mythic tier skin with Special pricing, meaning you couldnt just buy it outright with RP. Had to earn it through the event pass or get lucky later through Mythic Essence rotations. Available now through the Prestige shop rotation, so if you missed it in 2019 you can still pick it up when it cycles back.
How it stacks up against other Neeko skins
Neeko’s skin catalog isnt massive but there’s decent variety. The base Star Guardian is already a strong skin, so the question becomes whether the Prestige gold recolor justifies the grind. For Neeko one-tricks? Absolutely. The gold VFX on her abilities read cleaner than the standard version in my Diamond games. Been running this as my go-to Neeko skin since I picked it up in a Mythic Essence rotation last year.
Compared to something like Shan Hai Scrolls Neeko or Winter Wonder Neeko, the Prestige Star Guardian just carries more visual weight. Those skins are fine, solid even, but they dont have the same “oh that person cares about this champion” energy. Could be wrong here but I think there’s maybe 3 Neeko skins total that actually change how the champion feels to play, and this is one of them.
Real talk though, the skin does have a limitation. No new voice lines means you’re still hearing base Neeko quotes, which can feel slightly off when your character is dripping in gold prestige energy but talking like she just wandered out of the jungle for the first time. The VFX carry the skin. The recall carries the skin. The VO does not.
The honest take
Prestige Star Guardian Neeko is top pick for Neeko mains. Full stop. The golden VFX elevate every ability, the splash by Rudy Siswanto is phone wallpaper material, and the Star Guardian Season 3 event gave it proper context in the lore. If you play Neeko even semi-regularly in ranked, this is the skin that signals you know what you’re doing on the champion.
Skip it if you’re not a Neeko player though. The Special pricing through Mythic Essence means you’re spending a premium currency, and spending that on a champion you play twice a season is a waste. Been there with other Prestige skins, regretted it. But for the Neeko mains who lock her in every game and want the comp to know they’re serious about the pick before minions even spawn? This is the one. Kinda feels like Riot designed it specifically for that audience, and it delivers.
