First time I saw Elderwood Xayah load in, I thought someone was running a custom skin. The color palette is so different from base Xayah that it took me a second to register who I was laning against. Played against it in a Diamond ranked game sometime around late 2020, right after it dropped, and the feather VFX genuinely threw me off. Not sure if it’s just me but the feathers blend into certain terrain patches on the Rift in a way that feels almost unfair.
What Elderwood Xayah actually brings
This is an Epic tier skin so you’re getting new VFX, a new recall animation, and model changes. No new voice lines, voice stays default. The model itself goes full forest spirit: bark-like armor plating, leaf textures woven into the cape, and those feathers shift from their usual sharp red-violet into this deep amber-green. Gorgeous stuff.
The Q throws out feathers that trail golden-green particles instead of the usual purple. Clean read in lane, maybe even cleaner than base honestly. W activation gets this swirl of autumn leaves around Xayah which I think looks better than most of her other skins. The E recall on feathers has this satisfying earthy burst, like roots snapping. Been running this in ranked for a solid stretch and the ability reads never felt muddy.
Recall animation is where the Elderwood fantasy really clicks. She interacts with this little forest creature, very on-brand for the skinline. Simple change – huge impact on the feel. (Random aside: my duo partner who mains support saw the recall and immediately bought Elderwood Rakan to match. Peer pressure is real.)
R is the highlight for me. Bladecaller’s feather storm gets this nature-magic treatment with golden light and leaf particles. In a teamfight its hard to miss. Looks especially good when you’re pulling feathers through 3+ enemies in the backline. Had a game last Friday where I caught their Katarina and Zed with a five-feather root and the VFX just popped off.
The Elderwood line and where this skin fits
Elderwood as a skinline is one of Riot’s stronger thematic sets. Hecarim, Bard, Ornn, Ahri – all solid entries. Xayah fits naturally into the forest guardian aesthetic, maybe more than some other ADCs would. The skinline leans into that ancient woodland magic vibe and Xayah’s feather motif translates well into leaves and branches.
Released December 10, 2020. Late season 10, right before preseason chaos. West Studio handled the splash art, they captured the ethereal forest lighting perfectly. The splash positions Xayah mid-flight with golden feathers scattering through dark trees. Strong composition.
8 chromas total. Tanzanite is my go-to, the deep purple callback to her base colors while keeping the Elderwood silhouette feels right. Emberwood goes dark and moody, almost gives a Coven crossover vibe which I dig. Pearl is the cleanest if you want something bright for clarity in lane. The rest are fine but those three stood out across maybe 40 games of testing different ones. Could be wrong here but I think Tanzanite reads the best against Summoner’s Rift terrain specifically.
Is Elderwood Xayah worth 1350 RP?
Real verdict: this is a strong Epic skin. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. The VFX package is cohesive, the model is distinct enough from base that it feels like a real upgrade, and the Elderwood thematic suits Xayah better than I expected going in.
Been maining Xayah with this skin on and off since season 11. Kinda feels like it ages well compared to some of her flashier options. Star Guardian Xayah gets more attention and Brave Phoenix has the prestige variant, but Elderwood sits in this sweet spot of understated quality. No new VO refresh, which is standard for the price point, but the base voice lines dont clash with the fantasy.
Shop has it, permanent availability. If you’re a Xayah one-trick climbing through ranked, this is an easy recommend. The feather clarity in teamfights is genuinely good, which matters when you’re trying to track Q placement and E timing in a messy 5v5. Might be overthinking it but I swear my E hit rate went up with this skin just because the feather positions read so clearly against the ground.
Skip it if you already own Star Guardian or Brave Phoenix and dont need another Xayah skin in rotation. But if you’re picking your first premium Xayah cosmetic, Elderwood is top pick for Xayah mains. Season 12 or 13, I remember seeing maybe two other people running this in my games all split, so you wont see it every lobby either. That exclusivity factor is a nice bonus.
