Prehistoric Cho'Gath - Splash, Price & Chromas

First time I saw Prehistoric Cho’Gath load into my game I thought somebody modded in a Jurassic Park crossover. The silhouette alone is different enough from base that it caught me off guard mid-lane. Been playing Cho on and off since season 5 and this skin still gets rotation time even with newer options sitting in my collection.

What Prehistoric Cho’Gath actually changes

So the whole concept is Cho’Gath as a prehistoric predator. Think raptor-meets-kaiju energy. The model swap is solid for 750 RP: bone plating across the body, those jaw ridges, the tail redesign. Feels heavier somehow. Not sure if it’s just me but the auto attack animations seem to land with more weight in this skin. Probably placebo but I’ll take it.

New VFX come with this one which is unusual at this price point. The Q rupture has this earthy, primal look to it. Dust and bone fragments instead of the standard void spikes. W scream visual stays relatively subtle but reads cleaner against most Rift backgrounds. His R, the Feast, thats where the skin earns its keep. The chomp effect fits the dinosaur theme perfectly and stacking Feast in a teamfight just looks right on this model.

Voice lines stay base. No new VO, which is expected at this tier. The base Cho’Gath voice pack works fine here honestly since his lines about consuming everything already match the prehistoric predator vibe. Could be wrong here but I think Riot designed this skin line specifically because the existing champion fantasies already overlapped with dinosaurs.

No new recall animation either. Standard stuff. You lock in this skin for the model and VFX, not for the extras.

The Prehistoric Hunters line and release context

Prehistoric Cho’Gath dropped June 14, 2015. Mid-season 5. Michal Ivan and Sixmorevodka Studio handled the artwork, and the splash captures this massive dinosaur Cho mid-roar with the jungle canopy behind him. Clean composition.

The Prehistoric Hunters skinline includes a few other champions. Renekton got one in the same batch. Anivia too. Cho’Gath fits the theme most naturally though. A void creature that devours everything becoming a literal apex predator from the Mesozoic era is just common sense design. The skinline never got huge expansion but what exists is cohesive.

No chromas on this one. Zero. What you see is what you get. (Random aside: I keep hoping Riot circles back and drops a few chromas for the older 750 RP skins but it never happens.) Standard tier at 750 RP. Shop has it, permanent availability, no vault nonsense.

Should you pick up Prehistoric Cho’Gath?

Real verdict: for 750 RP this skin punches above its weight. Getting new VFX at this price is genuinely rare. Been running this in Diamond ranked last Thursday night and the Q particles still look clean even compared to skins twice the cost. The bone and earth aesthetic reads well in bot lane specifically during chaotic dragon fights where visual clarity matters.

That said. Cho’Gath has Battlecast Prime and Dark Star sitting in his catalog. Both Legendary tier, both objectively more feature-complete. If you main Cho’Gath and want the definitive skin experience, those exist. But if you’re like me and rotate between three or four Cho skins depending on mood, Prehistoric earns its slot. 750 RP feels fair for what you get.

Might be overthinking it but there’s something about the simpler skins that ages better. Played maybe 200 games with this one across multiple seasons and it never feels dated. The model holds up, the VFX hold up, the splash holds up. Skip it if you only buy Legendaries. Pick it up if you appreciate solid execution at a budget price point. Honestly not gonna lie, for climbing on Cho’Gath this season its been my go-to over flashier options just because the Q animation reads so cleanly during ganking setups and engage plays. S-tier Cho’Gath cosmetic for the price bracket.
