Prehistoric Renekton

First time I saw Prehistoric Renekton in the loading screen I thought Riot just slapped some bones on the croc and called it a day. Played maybe 40 games with it that first month and honestly? Thats exactly what they did. But it works. Something about turning an already dinosaur-looking champion into an actual prehistoric beast just clicks. Been running this as my budget Renekton skin since season 5 and I keep coming back to it over flashier options.

What Prehistoric Renekton actually changes

So this is a Standard tier skin at 750 RP, which means you’re getting a model swap and texture work. No new VFX on Q, W, E, or R. No new voice lines, no recall animation. Voice stays default. The base Patrick Seitz VO carries through unchanged.

The model itself though is where the value sits. Renekton goes from armored Shuriman warrior to full prehistoric predator. Bone armor plates, a massive jawbone weapon instead of his blade, tribal markings across his body. Kinda feels like what Renekton would look like if Shurima never happened and he just stayed a primal beast in the jungle. The color palette shifts to earthy browns and greens with bone white accents.

Not gonna lie, in teamfights the skin reads cleanly. When you’re diving the backline with your full combo the bone weapon has good visual weight on the W stun. Could be wrong here but I think the auto attack animations feel slightly different with the curved weapon shape, even though mechanically nothing changed. Playing this skin in lane, the model stands out against the Rift well enough. No chromas available for this one so what you see is what you get.

The Prehistoric Hunters line and release context

Prehistoric Renekton dropped June 14, 2015. Mid season 5 if I remember right. Part of the Prehistoric Hunters skinline alongside Cho’Gath and Anivia. The whole set had this “what if League champions were actual dinosaurs” concept going on.

Michal Ivan and Sixmorevodka Studio handled the splash art. They cooked on it honestly. The splash shows Renekton mid-roar in some primordial swamp, and the composition sells the fantasy hard. Sixmorevodka put in the work here, the lighting on the bone armor catches your eye immediately.

The Prehistoric Hunters line wasnt one of Riot’s biggest releases. Three skins, no event, no prestige variants. But for what it is, the thematic cohesion works. Renekton fits it the most naturally out of the three because he’s already a crocodile. You don’t have to stretch your imagination much. (Random aside: my duo partner bought all three Prehistoric skins the day they released and only ever used the Renekton one.)

Should you pick up Prehistoric Renekton?

Real verdict: at 750 RP this is one of the better budget options for Renekton mains. Shop has it permanently so no vault rotation to worry about. If you’re climbing through Gold or Plat and want a skin that looks distinct without dropping 1350 or 1820 RP, this does the job.

The competition is steep though. Renekton has some heavy hitters in his skin catalog. Pool Party, Blackfrost, and PROJECT all bring new VFX and particles that Prehistoric Renekton cant match. Last Tuesday I was in a Diamond lobby where someone locked in Prehistoric over Blackfrost and the whole lobby question-marked them. Fair enough.

But there’s something to the simplicity. Not every game needs the flashiest skin. Sometimes you just want to top lane, cs clean, get your lane prio, and splitpush with a big prehistoric croc. 750 RP feels fair for what you get. Skip this if you already own Pool Party or Blackfrost, but if Renekton is your engage champ for comp play and you want something cheap that still looks solid, this is the one. Worth 750 RP if you main Renekton and dont want to commit to a full Legendary price tag.
