First time I saw Scorched Earth Renekton load in, I thought someone modded the game. The whole model looks like it crawled out of a volcano. Genuinely caught me off guard back in season 4 when a top lane Renekton locked this in and just started running at me level 2. Something about the lava textures made his stun feel more threatening. Placebo? Probably. But thats half of what makes a skin worth using.
The lava croc treatment
So Scorched Earth takes Renekton and turns him into this obsidian-and-magma creature. His scales crack open with molten orange underneath, and the blade gets this superheated look that actually reads well in teamfights. For a 975 RP skin, the new VFX surprised me. His Q slice throws out these fiery particles, and the W empowered stun has a noticeable heat effect on impact. Not sure if it’s just me but the E dash trail looks cleaner than base too.
The recall animation is a nice touch. Renekton slams his blade into the ground and this eruption effect goes off around him. Short and aggressive, fits the champ perfectly. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, but honestly Patrick Seitz’s original Renekton voice already carries enough menace that it doesnt feel like a miss.
Been running this in Diamond for a stretch last season around November. Played maybe 40 games of Renekton top with it. The skin just feels right for the lane bully playstyle. You’re diving their backline at two items and the lava effects sell the aggression. Had one game where I flash W’d their ADC under tower at level 3 and my duo said the VFX made it look cinematic. Might be overthinking it but skins that match champion identity hit different.
Where Scorched Earth fits in
Released February 10, 2014. Part of the Infernal skinline, which Riot has built out pretty extensively since then. Alex ‘alexplank’ Flores nailed the splash – Renekton standing in what looks like a volcanic wasteland, blade raised, lava dripping off his body. The composition is aggressive. Good stuff.
The Infernal line has some bangers across the roster but Renekton fits the theme naturally. He’s already a rage-fueled crocodile. Adding fire and magma is the obvious play and it works. No chromas on this one, which is a shame because I think an Obsidian or dark variant would go hard. But for 975 RP in 2014 the package is solid. Shop has it, permanent availability.
Should you pick it up?
Real verdict: Scorched Earth Renekton is one of the better budget options for Renekton mains. 975 RP feels fair for what you get – new VFX, recall animation, completely different model and texture work. You’re not getting Legendary-tier treatment obviously but for a Standard skin this overdelivers.
(Random aside: I keep this as my secondary Renekton skin rotation behind Blackfrost, something about switching between ice and fire themes keeps the champ fresh for me.)
If you’re climbing with Renekton and want something that sells the lane bully fantasy without dropping 1350 or 1820 RP, this is your pick. Been around for over a decade now and still holds up visually. The lava effects read clean on the Rift even with all the visual clutter Riot has added since season 4. Worth 975 if you main Renekton, easy recommendation. Skip it only if you already own Pool Party or one of his newer Epics – those have more going on, but Scorched Earth earned its spot in the rotation.
