Infernal Amumu

First time I saw Infernal Amumu load into my game I thought someone was running a custom skin. The little dude is literally on fire and crying molten tears, which is honestly the most Amumu thing Riot could have done with an Infernal theme. Been running this in Diamond for a while now and it just feels right. Sad mummy, but make him volcanic.

What the Infernal treatment does to Amumu

So the whole model gets reworked into this charred, cracked lava golem look. His bandages are replaced with these glowing ember chains that trail behind him. Not gonna lie, the texture work here punches above what I expected for 1350 RP. The cracks in his body pulse with orange light, and in darker parts of the Rift like river or jungle it reads really well.

VFX are where the skin earns its keep. His Q – Bandage Toss – launches a flaming chain that leaves a heat trail. Looks clean and the hitbox actually feels more readable than base, which matters when youre trying to land engages in teamfight chaos. W aura becomes this ring of fire around him, embers floating up constantly. Solid particles, not overdone.

E – Tantrum – sends out a burst of flame instead of the usual ground slam. Quick and punchy. His R though, Curse of the Sad Mummy, is the highlight. Massive ring of fire erupts outward, and enemies caught get wrapped in burning chains. Locked this into a 4-man ult near dragon pit last week and my ADC typed “that looked insane” in chat. Fair enough.

The recall animation is new too. Amumu sits down surrounded by flames, tries to put himself out, fails. Classic Amumu energy. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, but the fire SFX layered over his abilities compensate. Every Q and R has this satisfying crackling sound.

The Infernal line and where Amumu fits

Infernal Amumu dropped October 16, 2018. Deep into season 8. Rudy Siswanto nailed the splash – Amumu standing in what looks like a volcanic wasteland, flames curling around him, that signature sad expression somehow still readable through the fire. Really good composition.

The Infernal skinline is one of Riot’s older thematic families. Champions like Nasus, Diana, Akali all got Infernal skins. Amumu fits the line naturally because his kit is all about AoE damage and the fire aesthetic maps perfectly onto his abilities. Kinda feels like he was designed for this theme honestly.

5 chromas total. Tanzanite is my personal pick – the deep purple fire looks unique and reads differently from every other Infernal skin on the Rift. Emerald does this toxic green flame thing that reminds me of wildfire, pretty sick. Ruby exists but its basically just a slightly redder version of the base which feels lazy. The rest are fine but those two stand out. (random aside: Tanzanite Infernal Amumu has been my phone lock screen for like two months now)

Shop has it. 1350 RP, standard Epic pricing. Could be wrong here but I think this was part of a bundle when it first released with the other Infernal skins that patch.

Should you buy Infernal Amumu?

Real verdict: this is a strong Epic skin for a champion who doesnt have a massive skin catalog of bangers. Surprise Party Amumu is the meme pick and Sad Robot has its fans, but Infernal Amumu is the cleanest gameplay experience in his collection. The VFX are distinct without being distracting, the model looks premium, and the fire theme gives his kit a visual coherence that base Amumu lacks.

1350 RP feels fair for what you get. Maybe I’d say wait for Your Shop if Amumu isnt your main, but if you play him in jungle or support regularly this is the skin. Been maybe 40 or 50 games deep with it this season and I keep coming back over his other options. The Q alone is worth it for how much better the ability reads in lane.

Skip it if you only play Amumu once a month in ARAM. But for anyone grinding ranked with the sad boy, especially in jungle where the darker map sections make those fire particles pop – top pick for Amumu mains. Not even close. (season 12 I think I played like 15 games of Amumu support in a row with this skin and climbed a full division, might be coincidence but I’m not risking it)
