Foxfire Ahri was the skin that made me start playing Ahri back in season 3. Not even joking. Saw it in a ranked game on the enemy team, the orbs looked completely different from base, and I bought both the champion and the skin before my next queue popped. Been a long time since July 2012 and this one still holds up better than you’d expect for a Standard tier skin at 975 RP.

The VFX carry everything here

For a 975 RP skin, Foxfire Ahri punches above its weight on one front specifically: the particle effects. Her orb turns into this flickering flame that reads way cleaner than base in teamfights. Q toss and return both get the fire treatment. Honestly not gonna lie, the W foxfires themselves are the real star. Three little flame wisps orbiting Ahri that lock onto targets with this satisfying snap.

E charm gets a subtle fire trail. Not as dramatic as some of her newer skins do it, but enough that you notice. The ult dashes leave behind quick flame streaks. Nothing crazy. For a skin from 2012 though, Riot put actual effort into the ability VFX across the board.

(Random aside: I used this skin exclusively until Star Guardian dropped in like 2017 and I still swap back to it sometimes for the nostalgia.)

Voice lines stay base, no new recall animation either. Thats just the reality of 975 RP skins from that era. The model swap gives Ahri a darker outfit with flame accents, tails get fire tips. Simple change – huge impact on how she reads in lane.

Where Foxfire sits in the Infernal line

This skin is technically part of the Infernal skinline even though most people dont associate it with the Infernal brand the way they do Infernal Nasus or Diana. Released July 11, 2012, back when Riot wasnt as strict about keeping skinlines visually unified. Jeremy Chong and West Studio handled the splash, and they captured the fox-fire mythology angle well. The splash has aged obviously but it still reads.

Two chromas available. Ahri-versary swaps to a blue and crimson palette, feels like a completely different skin honestly. Emerald goes green across the board. Could be wrong here but I think the Ahri-versary chroma actually looks better than base Foxfire in most lighting on the Rift. Been running the Emerald one in my Diamond games last week and it pops against river fights specifically.

Shop has it permanently. 975 RP, no vault rotation nonsense.

Should you pick up Foxfire Ahri

Real verdict: if you main Ahri and want something that feels different from base without dropping 1350 or 1820 RP, Foxfire is the answer. The VFX do enough heavy lifting to justify the price. I’ve seen maybe 4 of these in my games all season, which means you wont be running into mirror skin matchups in bot lane or mid.

It’s not her best skin. Spirit Blossom and Coven both exist. But for the price point, 975 RP feels fair for what you get. Kinda feels like Riot accidentally gave this one more love than most Standard skins deserve. If you’re climbing through ranked and want clean particles without the Legendary tax, lock in Foxfire. Played maybe 150 games with it across seasons 3 through 6 and keep coming back to it when I want that classic Ahri feel. Top pick for Ahri mains on a budget, skip it if you already own three of her skins though because at some point you’re just collecting.
