Been running Infernal Akali on and off since like season 3 or 4, cant remember exactly. First time I saw it in a loading screen I thought the splash looked way more intimidating than it had any right to at 520 RP. Akali surrounded by flames, kama out, ready to delete someone. Not sure if it’s just me but the whole fire ninja concept just works for her kit even after the rework changed everything about how she plays.

What the skin actually changes

So for a Standard tier skin at this price point, Infernal Akali does more than you’d expect. The outfit swaps her usual green for deep reds and blacks with fire accents running through the design. Akali’s kama gets a fiery treatment too. The model itself is clean for a 2010 release.

VFX got updated at some point which honestly saved this skin from feeling completely dated. Her Q throws out particles with a warm orange tint, and the smoke shroud has this subtle heat distortion thing going on. Not groundbreaking stuff. But compared to other 520 RP options it holds up. The recall animation is a nice bonus – most skins at this price just use the default recall so thats a win.

Voice lines stay base, no filter, no new VO. Standard for this tier. In teamfights the red color scheme makes Akali pop against the Rift’s green and blue tones, which I actually think matters more than people give credit for. Played maybe 40 games with this last month in Diamond and the visibility is solid. You know when your Akali is diving the backline because the fire effects light up the fight.

The Infernal line and release context

Infernal Akali dropped May 11, 2010. Season 1 era. Wild to think about how different the game was back then. West Studio handled the splash and honestly for a skin from that era the art direction holds up better than most of its contemporaries.

The Infernal skinline is one of Riot’s longest running themes. Akali fits the fire aesthetic naturally given her aggressive playstyle. You lock in Akali to dive and assassinate, and wrapping that in literal flames is about as on-the-nose as it gets. (Random aside: my friend group calls this the “angry Akali” skin because of the splash expression and it stuck for years.)

Legacy vault skin so you wont find it in the regular shop. Hextech only these days or wait for a vault opening event. No chromas available for this one which makes sense given the age and price tier. 520 RP is what you’d pay if it ever rotates back in.

Should you pick up Infernal Akali?

Real verdict: this is a budget Akali skin that punches above its weight. 520 RP for updated VFX and a recall animation is genuinely good value. Could be wrong here but I think this is underrated in the Akali skin pool. Most people jump straight to K/DA or PROJECT or Coven, and fair enough those are higher tier skins with more going on. But if you’re climbing through ranked and dont want to drop 1350+ RP on a skin you might swap out next patch, Infernal Akali is the move.

Kinda feels like the skin gets overlooked because of Legacy availability. Seen maybe two of these in my games all season, which honestly makes it feel more unique than some of the epic tier options everyone and their duo partner runs. For Akali one-tricks who want something different from the usual rotation, keep an eye on loot drops. Last Tuesday I actually rerolled into it on a smurf account and immediately started spamming it in solo queue. The fire theme reads well in lane, in skirmishes, during ganking sequences. Simple change – huge impact on how the champion feels to pilot.

Skip the flashier options if you’re on a budget. Infernal Akali earned its spot in the collection.
