Coven Akali

First game I played with Coven Akali was around 1 AM on a Wednesday, patch 13.20 night. Locked her in blind without checking the spotlight. The loading screen splash hit different and I knew immediately this was going to stay in rotation. Been maining Akali on and off since season 10 and the Coven line felt like the skin she was always supposed to get.

What Coven Akali actually brings to the table

The VFX overhaul is where this skin earns its 1350 RP. Q throws out these deep violet energy slashes with thorny particle trails. Feels heavier than base Akali’s Q, which I think actually helps with timing your poke in lane. Could be wrong here but the animation on E feels slightly snappier too, the shuriken reads cleaner against dark Rift terrain specifically.

W is the standout. Shroud drops with this dark ritual circle effect, purple-black mist pooling out from the ground. In teamfights when you’re looking to dive the backline, the shroud VFX blend into chaotic fights in a way that actually makes it harder for enemies to track you. Not a competitive advantage really, just looks sick.

R1 dash has trailing dark energy and R2 execute leaves behind a burst of thorns on impact. Solid work. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, which is standard for an Epic tier skin. The recall animation though is worth watching at least once. Akali performs this whole dark ritual summoning sequence. Took this into ranked for maybe 30 games in Diamond and the recall animation became my go-to BM after solo killing the enemy mid.

(Random aside: the W shroud circle looks almost identical to a summoning circle from some horror movie I cant remember the name of. Intentional for sure.)

The Coven line and release context

Coven Akali dropped October 11, 2023. Late into season 13. Lejia Chan and Kudos Productions handled the artwork, and honestly they cooked on this one. The splash captures Akali mid-ritual with these massive dark wings framing her. One of the better Coven splashes in the set.

The Coven skinline is probably Riot’s most consistent thematic line. Coven Camille, Coven Zyra, Coven Lissandra – all bangers. Akali fits the dark witch fantasy naturally because her kit already has that assassin mystique. The thorny VFX tie her into the Coven aesthetic without forcing it.

10 chromas total for this one. Sapphire is my personal pick, the deep blue against the dark base palette reads cleanly in game. Tanzanite goes even darker if you want the edgy route, almost black-purple. Rose Quartz is interesting because it flips the whole mood to something softer, kinda feels like a different skin entirely. Not gonna lie the Destined chroma with that pale ethereal look caught me off guard, might be the sleeper best option for Akali one-tricks who want something unique.

Is 1350 RP fair for Coven Akali?

Real verdict: this sits comfortably in the top three Akali skins. Maybe just my experience but after cycling through K/DA, PROJECT, and Star Guardian, I keep coming back to Coven. The VFX are clean without being noisy. Important distinction. Some Akali skins have so much particle clutter that you lose track of your own abilities in a late-game teamfight. Coven keeps it readable.

1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX across the full kit, solid recall, strong splash. Standard voice, no new lines, which is the only thing holding it back from being perfect. If you main Akali and you play more than ten games a week on her, this is worth the lock-in. Shop has it any time you want.

Been daily driving this skin since it dropped and honestly the only Akali skin I’d put above it is the Prestige Coven variant. Straight talk: if you’re climbing on Akali this season and want a skin that looks clean while you’re spamming Q poke pre-6 and diving their comp post-6, Coven is the answer. Skip it only if you already own Prestige K/DA and cant justify another Akali purchase. S-tier Akali cosmetic.
