First time I saw K/DA Akali load into a game I thought Riot had lost their minds. A neon hip-hop assassin with a snapback and a dragon jacket? In my ranked queue? Played maybe 200 games with this skin since it dropped and honestly the vibe never gets old. Not gonna lie, when POP/STARS hit at Worlds 2018 I pre-purchased the bundle before the song even finished.

The neon glow-up Akali needed

So what actually changes at 1350 RP. The model is a full redesign. Akali trades her kunai-wielding ninja look for streetwear: baseball cap worn backwards, oversized dragon-print bomber jacket, and neon accents across the whole outfit. The color palette shifts hard from traditional reds and greens into purple, magenta, and electric blue. Big departure from base.

VFX got the full treatment. Her Q throws out these neon-traced shurikens that leave trails of purple light. W is where it gets interesting. The shroud drops as this smoky neon cloud, and when you’re inside it the whole zone pulses with K/DA branding energy. Been running this in Diamond for seasons and the W zone still catches people off guard visually. They hesitate for half a second. That half second gets them killed.

E marks the target with a glowing K/DA sigil before Akali dashes back in. Clean read on whether you hit it or not. R is two dashes of pure neon streaking across the lane, purple and pink particles trailing behind. In a teamfight at dragon pit last week the ult VFX cutting through five people looked absurd. Could be wrong here but I think the R particles on this skin are more visually distinct than even some of her Legendary options.

Recall animation is the highlight for a lot of people. Akali does a freestyle rap pose, drops some moves, the whole K/DA stage setup appears behind her. Its easily the most stylish recall in her entire catalog. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, but honestly the base Akali voice works fine with the aesthetic. The confident attitude fits.

K/DA origins and the Worlds 2018 moment

Released November 3, 2018. Right after that Worlds performance. Alvin Lee, Pan Chengwei, and Bo “chenbowow” Chen handled the splash art, and they captured something specific: Akali mid-performance, neon dragon behind her, attitude cranked to maximum. The splash reads more like a concert poster than a game skin. (Random aside: this splash was my Discord avatar for like eight months straight.)

The K/DA skinline changed how Riot approaches thematic releases. Before K/DA most skinlines were fantasy or sci-fi. This was pop music, idol culture, real-world fashion mixed into League. Akali became the face of K/DA specifically because of that rap section in POP/STARS. The skin sold like crazy. Season 8 I think, everyone in my games was locking in Akali regardless of whether they could play her. Kinda feels like every other game had a K/DA Akali on one team or the other for months after launch.

The K/DA line eventually expanded with ALL OUT and prestige variants, but the original K/DA Akali still holds up. There’s something about the first version that hits different. Less polished maybe, but more raw energy. The neon dragon jacket alone carries more personality than most full reworks.

Should you spend 1350 RP on K/DA Akali

Real verdict: this is top three Akali skins. Maybe top two. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New model, full VFX overhaul, that recall animation. No new voice lines keeps it from being perfect, but at Epic tier thats expected. Shop has it, permanent availability, no vault nonsense.

If you main Akali and you dont own this yet I genuinely dont understand what you’re waiting for. The skin reads clean in lane, the particles are distinct enough that you can track your abilities in chaotic teamfights, and the aesthetic is just cool. Not “fantasy warrior” cool. Actual cool. Streetwear assassin with neon dragons cool.

Skip it only if you already own PROJECT or ALL OUT and feel covered. But even then, K/DA fills a completely different fantasy. Been daily driving this over her other skins for two seasons now and I keep coming back. Best executed of the original K/DA set, and that includes Kai’Sa and Ahri. The poke pattern on Akali’s kit just pairs perfectly with neon VFX. Every Q poke in lane feels like a light show. Worth 1350 if you main Akali, worth it even if you just play her occasionally in normals around 2 AM on a Tuesday.
