K/DA ALL OUT Seraphine might be the most debated skin purchase in League history. When it released October 29, 2020, Seraphine was a brand new champion and her Ultimate skin was part of a three-stage bundle that people either loved or hated. There was no in-between. I bought it because I was curious and because 3250 RP for what is essentially three skins felt like reasonable math. Six months later I had mixed feelings. Now, years later, I think the hate was overblown but the praise was too.

Three stages and the quest progression

K/DA ALL OUT Seraphine works differently from other Ultimate skins. Instead of toggling between forms in-game like DJ Sona or Elementalist Lux, you unlock three separate skins through a quest chain: Indie, Rising Star, and Superstar. Each is a standalone skin with its own model, VFX, and splash art. Alex “alexplank” Flores did the splash work across all three stages. Michele Panu provides the voice.

Indie is the starting point. Seraphine in a casual bedroom musician aesthetic. Headphones, simple outfit, playing music from her room. The VFX are subtle and warm. High Note on Q sends out a musical note with soft particle effects. Surround Sound on W heals and shields with gentle audio wave visuals. Beat Drop on E stuns with a small bass effect. Encore on R sends a wave of music forward with Indie-level production quality effects. Modest but charming.

Rising Star escalates. More polished outfit, better stage presence, the VFX get flashier with K/DA branding starting to appear in the particle effects. High Note on Q in Rising Star has a more defined musical note shape with pink-gold trails. Surround Sound on W has wider healing waves with sparkle effects. The whole visual package feels like Seraphine went from bedroom recordings to opening for a larger act. Solid middle ground skin honestly.

Superstar is the final form and the one that actually looks like a proper K/DA member. Full pop star outfit with the iconic K/DA aesthetic, elaborate VFX with neon particle effects on every ability, and a recall that puts Seraphine center stage at a concert with holographic backup dancers. High Note on Q in Superstar sends out a glowing neon projectile that leaves a trail of musical particles. Beat Drop on E has K/DA logos flashing in the stun zone which is a nice touch. The Superstar version of Encore on R specifically looks incredible in teamfights with neon K/DA energy cascading through enemies and the charm wave has this concert spotlight effect that sweeps across the ground. Hit a 5-man Encore with Superstar active in a Diamond game once and my support duo said it looked like a music video.

The controversy and why it happened

People were mad about this skin for a few reasons. First, you had to complete quests over multiple games to unlock Rising Star and Superstar, so you couldnt use the full product on day one. Second, some players felt that Seraphine was designed as a K/DA tie-in champion first and a League champion second. Third, the three skins share a modern pop aesthetic that some people found too similar to each other compared to Elementalist Lux’s dramatic form differences.

Fair criticisms honestly. The quest unlock system was annoying. But the actual skins themselves, all three of them, are well-made. Superstar in particular has VFX quality that rivals any Legendary in the game. The progression from bedroom musician to pop star is a cool narrative even if the delivery had problems.

Does the 3250 RP bundle hold up today

Released October 29, 2020 at 3250 RP. Part of the K/DA skinline. No chromas across any of the three stages. Still available in the shop. All three stages are unlockable immediately now without the quest chain if I remember right, which removes the original frustration.

Could be wrong but I think K/DA ALL OUT Seraphine is better than its reputation suggests. Three distinct skins for 3250 RP is actually decent value if you play Seraphine regularly. Superstar alone justifies a significant chunk of that price. The Indie stage is the weakest but it has a cozy charm that Superstar cant replicate. Rising Star sits in between and is probably the one I use most often in ranked because the VFX are flashy enough without being overwhelming.

Maybe just my experience but I think the Indie stage gets unfairly dismissed. Yeah it is the simplest of the three but there is a cozy authenticity to it that the flashier stages lose. Playing Seraphine support in lane with the Indie skin feels like you are this small-time musician trying to make it and then by late game you switch to Superstar and suddenly you are the main event. The narrative progression across the three skins is genuinely clever even if the unlock system was originally frustrating.

Not the best Ultimate skin. That is still Elementalist Lux by a wide margin. But its a solid purchase for Seraphine mains who want variety without buying three separate skins. The K/DA skinline is one of the most popular in League for a reason and Seraphine fits the pop star fantasy perfectly as a champion. Just dont expect the same transformative experience that Elementalist delivers. Three good skins bundled together is not the same thing as one skin with ten forms, but for 3250 RP you are still getting more content than any single Legendary would give you. Played maybe 80 games across all three stages and each one has its own vibe that keeps things fresh in ranked.
