DRX Akali

Been running this skin since it dropped June 2023 and honestly its one of those esports skins that actually delivers. DRX Akali hit different the first time I locked it in. The blue and gold palette just works on Akali’s kit in a way most Worlds skins dont manage. Not gonna lie, I expected another forgettable championship skin and got something I keep coming back to in ranked.

What the DRX skin actually changes on Akali

New VFX across the board. The Q shuriken throw has this clean blue energy trail that reads well against the Rift, especially in darker jungle areas where you’re looking for flanks. W shroud shifts to a deep navy smoke cloud with DRX gold accents flickering at the edges. Looks good. E has the blue streaks following Akali through the dash, and the R execution dash leaves a gold afterimage that I think is the best part of the whole package visually.

New recall animation too. Akali sits with the Worlds trophy, which is standard for championship skins but the pose they gave her feels natural. Not forced. The whole thing plays into that 2022 Worlds run energy.

Voice lines stay base. No VO refresh on this one, which is expected at the Epic tier. Krizia Bajos still sounds great on default Akali so no complaints there. Could be wrong here but I feel like the base VO actually fits the competitive theme better than some custom lines would.

One thing that stood out playing maybe 40 games with this skin last summer around 3 AM grinding Diamond: the ability VFX dont clutter your screen during teamfights. Some Akali skins make it harder to track your own Q and passive proc in a messy 5v5. DRX keeps it clean. Blue particles on a green Rift just pop without being distracting when you’re trying to dive the backline.

The Worlds 2022 line and where DRX Akali fits

World Champions 2022 skinline. This whole set celebrates DRX’s incredible run through Worlds that year. Horace ‘Hozure’ Hsu nailed the splash, the composition captures Akali mid-strike with the DRX jersey elements woven into her outfit. Good stuff.

Released June 1, 2023. Late into season 13 at that point. Legacy vault skin, so you cant just grab it whenever. Gotta wait for the vault to rotate or get lucky with Hextech crafting. Seen maybe 5 of these in my games all season, which honestly makes it feel more premium when you do run it.

There’s 1 chroma available, the Elite variant. Gold and blue shifted toward a brighter palette with more emphasis on the royal blue. (Random aside: the Elite chroma on esports skins is always the one the actual pro player helped pick, which is a cool detail most people skip over.) 1350 RP for the base skin, standard Epic pricing.

Should you pick up DRX Akali?

Real verdict: this is a solid mid-tier Akali skin that punches above its weight class. The VFX work is clean, the color scheme is distinctive, and it represents one of the best Worlds storylines in recent memory. If you were watching that DRX vs T1 finals, this skin carries that emotional weight.

For Akali mains specifically, you’ve got a massive skin pool to choose from. K/DA, PROJECT, Coven, Spirit Blossom. Heavy competition. DRX Akali isnt trying to be the flashiest option. It’s the one you lock in when you want something clean that doesnt distract from gameplay. Been daily driving it in Diamond this split and the readability advantage is real when you’re spamming Q in lane and need to track your energy.

Biggest downside is the Legacy availability. If it shows up in the shop or your Hextech rolls, grab it. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. Skip it if you already own Coven or Spirit Blossom and only play Akali occasionally. But for one-tricks who want the full collection, kinda feels like a must-have. That ranked game where my Kayn inted three kills pre-6 and I still carried the teamfight on DRX Akali sold me on it permanently. Clean skin for a clean champ.
