Coven Evelynn

First time I saw Coven Evelynn load into a game I genuinely paused. Not like a “oh thats nice” pause, more like a “this might be the best thing Riot has done for this champion” moment. Been maining Evelynn with this skin since it dropped in 2021 and I keep coming back to it over everything else in her catalog. The witch fantasy fits her kit so naturally it feels like this should have been her base design.

How Coven Evelynn actually plays

This is a full Legendary skin. New voice lines, new VFX, new recall, the whole package. Mara Junot on the voice acting and she absolutely killed it. The VO has this cold, regal menace that base Evelynn’s flirty persona doesn’t touch. Every line drips with this old-world power fantasy. Not gonna lie, I’ve caught myself just standing in fountain listening to her idle lines more than once.

The Q is where you notice the biggest shift. Each spike has this dark violet energy trail that reads way cleaner than base in teamfights. When you’re poking from stealth pre-6, the particles feel more deliberate. Sharper. The W charm buildup has these thorny vine indicators wrapping around the target, which honestly gives better visual feedback than default. Could be wrong here but I think the heart indicator is slightly larger on Coven, makes it easier to track in chaotic fights.

Her E lash forward has this satisfying dark burst on contact. Quick and violent. The empowered E specifically looks brutal with the claw animation reworked into these branching thorns. And the R, the ult, man. The execute blink leaves behind this eruption of dark roses and thorns. Played maybe 200 games with this skin and the ult VFX still hit different every time. In one ranked game last season around 1 AM I ulted a Katarina out of her Death Lotus in dragon pit and the visual was genuinely cinematic.

(Random aside: the demon shade passive form might be the best part. The way she floats with those moth wings partially unfurled is S-tier idle animation work.)

The Coven line and where Evelynn fits

Coven dropped August 12, 2021. Mid-season 11. Alex ‘alexplank’ Flores nailed the splash, the composition with Evelynn seated on that dark throne surrounded by moths is one of the better pieces in the entire skin catalog. Worth zooming in on the details.

The Coven skinline is one of Riot’s strongest thematic hits. Lissandra, Morgana, Camille, Zyra, they all got solid entries. But Evelynn might be the best executed of the set. Kinda feels like the entire line was building toward a seductive dark witch archetype and Evelynn was the obvious pick. Her base kit already has the allure and deception angle, so Coven just layers gothic royalty on top of it.

6 chromas total if you want variety. Obsidian is my go-to for ranked, the dark tones blend into the Rift shadows better when you’re looking to gank from stealth. Dark Ritual has this deep teal and crimson split that reads as more sinister than base. Rose Quartz is popular but I think it clashes with the skin’s overall mood. Too soft for a witch queen. Personal preference though.

Worth the Legendary price?

Real verdict: 1820 RP well spent for mains. Full stop. This is the Evelynn skin if you can only own one. The new VO alone justifies the Legendary tier pricing over something like Blood Moon or Sugar Rush. Those are fine skins but they dont touch the production value here.

Shop has it permanently so no rush. Not a vault rotation or loot exclusive situation. You can grab Coven Evelynn any time you want.

I’ve tried cycling through her other skins for variety. K/DA All Out lasted maybe a week before I switched back. The Coven recall animation where she summons that dark sigil circle is too good to give up. Been running this in Diamond for three seasons straight and I still notice small details I missed. Season 12 I think I spotted new moth particles on the passive that I swear werent there at launch, but could be coping.

If you’re an Evelynn one-trick this is mandatory. If you play her occasionally in the jungle, still worth it. The visual clarity on abilities genuinely helps with tracking your own cooldowns in messy teamfights where you’re trying to find the backline pick. The only scenario where I’d say skip is if you literally never play assassin junglers. For everyone else climbing with Evelynn in their pool, Coven is the correct choice. 1820 RP, earns every point of it.

Straight talk: Riot doesn’t always nail Legendaries. Some feel like upcharged Epics with a voice pack slapped on. Coven Evelynn is not that. New model, new animations, full VO, VFX overhaul, thematic cohesion with one of their best skinlines. Top pick for Evelynn mains and it’s not particularly close.
