Coven Elise

Locked in Coven Elise the night it dropped and played maybe 15 games straight before I even looked at another skin. Not gonna lie, Elise has needed a proper dark fantasy skin for years, and the Coven line finally delivered. The spider queen fantasy fits so naturally into the whole witch-coven aesthetic that I’m surprised it took Riot this long to make the connection. First game I loaded in, my support pinged my splash in champ select and typed “sick skin.” Good start.

What Coven Elise actually brings to the table

The VFX overhaul here is clean. Human form Q sends out this deep violet burst that reads well in lane without being distracting, and the W spiderling carries the dark thorny aesthetic from the splash into gameplay. E cocoon got the best treatment – the projectile has this swirling dark energy trail that makes landing stuns feel way more satisfying. Hard to explain but theres something about the visual weight that just clicks.

Spider form is where Coven Elise really separates from her other skins. The transformation keeps the occult vibe going with dark petals and thorned legs. Rappel looks incredible. Dropping down on someone from the Coven rappel during a gank feels theatrical in the best way. Been running this in Diamond jungle games since season 13 and the visual clarity on spider Q execute is crisp enough that I can actually track the damage better than base.

New recall animation ties the whole package together. Elise summons this dark ritual circle, very on-brand for Coven. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, but the skin filter on ability sounds carries enough atmosphere that I dont mind. (Random aside: the spiderlings in this skin look genuinely creepy in a way that default spiderlings never managed.)

The Coven line and where Elise fits

Released October 11, 2023. Late into the season 13 cycle. Nathaniel Himawan and West Studio handled the artwork, and they captured something special with the composition. The splash has Elise mid-transformation with the Coven sigils floating around her. Dark purples and thorned roses everywhere.

The Coven skinline is one of Riot’s strongest thematic sets. Coven Elise joins a stacked roster – Camille, Zyra, Lissandra, and others already had Coven skins. Might be overthinking it but I think Elise fits the Coven fantasy better than half the existing roster. Spider witch commanding dark magic? That’s the whole identity of the line.

9 chromas total for this one. Tanzanite is my personal pick, the deep purple pushes the dark sorceress angle harder than base. Obsidian goes full shadow mode which reads clean on the Rift, especially during late-game teamfights where visual clutter gets bad. Rose Quartz exists for people who want the pastel witch vibe, kinda works if you’re into that. Not every chroma hits equally but the selection is solid for 1350 RP.

Should you buy Coven Elise?

Real verdict: this is the best Elise skin for anyone who takes the champion seriously. Bewitching Elise was fine for years but felt more like a novelty pick. Blood Moon had the right idea but the execution aged poorly. Coven Elise is the first skin that makes Elise feel like the apex predator she’s supposed to be in the jungle.

1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX across both forms, solid recall, strong chroma options. Shop has it, permanent availability. Could be wrong here but I think this stays as the definitive Elise skin for a long time. If you’re an Elise main climbing through ranked, this is the one. Been spamming this in Diamond since it came out around last October and I keep coming back to it over everything else in her catalog. S-tier Elise cosmetic, no question.

Only real complaint is minor. Pre-6 ganks in human form feel slightly less impactful visually compared to spider form, where all the best VFX live. But that’s Elise’s kit design, not the skin’s fault. Once you hit 6 and start diving the backline with rappel, the whole skin comes alive. Played a game last week where I tower dove their Syndra at level 6 and the Coven rappel animation made the outplay look twice as clean as it actually was. Worth every RP.
