Not gonna lie, when Super Galaxy Elise first showed up on PBE I wasnt sure Riot could pull off the mecha-anime aesthetic on a shapeshifting spider champion. Elise has always been one of those champions where the transform gimmick makes or breaks a skin. You need both forms to look good or the whole thing falls apart. Played maybe 30 games with this the week it dropped and I remember thinking: okay, they actually figured it out.
How Super Galaxy changes Elise’s kit
The human form gets a full sci-fi treatment. Elise’s outfit swaps the usual dark sorceress look for a bright power-suit with neon pink and blue highlights. Think Gurren Lagann energy. The spiderlings in human form become little mechanical drones, which is a nice touch when you’re clearing jungle camps at speed.
Spider form is where Super Galaxy Elise really earns the 1350 RP. The transform animation has this satisfying mecha-unfold feel to it. Your Q in spider form, Venomous Bite, hits with a distinct energy pulse instead of the base fang strike. W’s Volatile Spiderling launches a glowing projectile that reads way cleaner in teamfights than base. Cocoon (E) fires a neon-wrapped stun that I think is actually easier to track mid-flight, which matters when you’re trying to land ganks from fog of war.
Could be wrong here but the rappel (E in spider form) feels slightly different visually too. The descent has more particle weight to it. New recall animation shows Elise striking a Super Galaxy pose with her spiderlings forming up behind her. Classic sentai squad moment. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, but honestly Elise’s base voice pack holds up fine in 2017-era skins.
VFX across both forms use that signature Super Galaxy color palette. Bright pinks, electric blues, energy trails on abilities. Compared to base Elise where everything is muted greens and purples, this skin pops hard on the Rift. In my Diamond games specifically I’ve had teammates comment on the spiderling models more than once.
The Super Galaxy line and release context
Super Galaxy Elise released October 16, 2017. Late season 7. Mushk Rizvi nailed the splash, capturing Elise mid-transform with the spiderlings fanning out in formation behind her. The composition reads like an anime poster and thats exactly what the Super Galaxy skinline goes for.
The Super Galaxy line is one of Riot’s more committed thematic sets. You got Rumble as the flagship (Legendary tier), then champions like Shyvana, Fizz, Kindred, Nidalee, and Gnar filling out the roster. Elise fits the theme naturally because her dual-form gameplay maps perfectly onto the “pilot transforms into mech” fantasy. She’s not just wearing a costume, the skin concept actually works with her kit.
(Random aside: the Super Galaxy splash collection might be the most wallpaper-worthy set Riot has produced. Had the Elise one as my desktop background for like three months straight.)
No chromas available for Super Galaxy Elise. Zero. Kinda feels like a missed opportunity since Epic skins from this era sometimes got chroma packs later, but Riot never circled back to this one. The base color scheme works well enough on its own though.
Should you pick up Super Galaxy Elise?
Real verdict: if you’re an Elise jungle main climbing through ranked, this is one of the better options in her catalog. 1350 RP for new VFX on both forms plus a solid recall animation. Shop has it, permanent availability, so no vault pressure.
The competition in Elise’s skin lineup is interesting. Blood Moon Elise goes for the dark thematic angle. Bewitching leans seasonal. Coven is probably the most popular pick I see in my games these days. But Super Galaxy Elise occupies this unique space where it’s bright and flashy without being overkill. Been running this in ranked when I want something lighter than Coven’s vibe, especially during late-night sessions around 1 AM when I need the visual clarity.
Where it falls short: no new voice lines or voice filter. For an Epic skin in 2017 that was standard, but compared to what Riot ships now at the 1350 tier it does feel slightly bare. The spiderling models carry a lot of the value here. If you dont care about the mecha-anime aesthetic, Blood Moon or Coven will serve you better.
Straight talk: Super Galaxy Elise is a strong mid-tier pick in her skin collection. Not the flashiest, not the most popular, but clean execution on a difficult champion to design skins for. Worth 1350 RP if you main Elise and want variety in your rotation. Seen maybe 5 of these in my games all season, so you wont be running into mirrors. That counts for something.
