Masque of the Black Rose Elise

First game I played with this skin was around 2 AM on a Thursday, right after it dropped in January 2025. Loaded into a ranked game, locked in Elise jungle, and the loading screen splash hit different. Terence ‘Terrylefruit’ Cantal put in the work here. The whole masquerade vibe with the spider motif layered underneath feels like something out of a Noxian opera house. Not gonna lie, I wasnt expecting much from a Standard tier skin but this one caught me off guard.

VFX and the Recall Are Doing Heavy Lifting

For a Standard skin with special pricing, Masque of the Black Rose Elise packs more than you’d think. New VFX across the board. The Cocoon (E) trails this dark violet thread that reads way cleaner than base Elise in teamfights. Neurotoxin (Q) has a subtle rose petal effect on impact. Small change – huge impact when you’re poking from fog before a gank.

The recall animation is the standout. Elise does this whole masquerade curtsy before her spider form takes over. Played maybe 30 games with this skin in Diamond last season and I kept recalling in vision just to flex it. (Random aside: my duo started calling it “the fancy spider” and honestly that tracks.)

Voice lines stay base, which is expected at this tier. Sydney Rainin-Smith’s original Elise VO still works fine with the theme though. The spider form transformation keeps the same audio cues so your muscle memory for R timing doesnt get thrown off. Could be wrong here but I think the human form auto attacks have a slightly different particle color. Deep crimson instead of the usual green.

The Masque of the Black Rose Line and Release Context

Masque of the Black Rose dropped January 9, 2025. Late into season 14 territory. The Masque of the Black Rose skinline pulls from Noxian high society lore, which fits Elise perfectly considering her whole Black Rose connections in the actual champion backstory. Riot leaning into the existing lore here instead of slapping a random theme on her. Respect.

No chromas for this one. Zero. Kinda feels like a missed opportunity since a gold or silver masquerade variant would have been clean. Special pricing on this skin, so its not your typical 750 or 975 RP grab. Available now in the shop if you want it.

The Masque of the Black Rose set also includes Samira, Ezreal, and Renata Glasc. Elise fits the theme the most naturally out of the group. Spider queen at a Noxian masquerade ball? Writes itself. Been running this as my default Elise skin since about February and I keep coming back to it over Bewitching and Coven.

Should You Pick This Up?

Real verdict: Masque of the Black Rose Elise is one of those skins that punches above its weight class. The new VFX give you actual gameplay clarity in the jungle and the recall is genuinely fun to watch. For Elise mains who’ve been stuck cycling between Coven and Blood Moon, this is a solid rotation pick.

Might be overthinking it but I think this skin reads better on the Rift than the splash suggests. The in-game model during spider form especially. That said if you only play Elise once every 15 games in ranked, probably skip it. Mains and one-tricks though? Lock it in. Best Elise skin for the price point, and the Masque of the Black Rose fantasy carries hard when you’re diving the backline pre-6 and pulling off cocoon picks in bot lane specifically. Seen it maybe five times in my games all season outside of my own, so you’ll stand out.
