The Masque of the Black Rose skinline launched January 9, 2025 and Masque of the Black Rose Vladimir was one of the natural anchors of the set from day one. Gothic masquerade, high-society Noxus, secret-society power plays. Thematically this champion and this skinline are almost too perfect a match. Picked this up on release night and took it straight into ranked before the patch notes even loaded.

What actually changes with this skin

Being a Standard skin, the transformation is selective rather than total – but where Riot focused the changes, they land well. Masque of the Black Rose Vladimir gets new VFX, and the biggest upgrade is the Q – Transfusion – which now carries this crimson-smoke elegance instead of the default flat red hit. Feels like blood magic with a theatre degree. Genuinely better to look at in teamfights where Vladimir is pooling and Q-ing the backline out of nowhere.

The E – Tides of Blood – also picks up the VFX treatment, adding a theatrical cast flourish that reads more cleanly in busy fights. Not sure if its just me but the E animation makes the poke feel more deliberate, like each cast has actual weight behind it. Could be bias from playing a skin I actually like for once.

New recall in the package too, and it’s one of the stronger parts. Vladimir hits this theatrical mid-masquerade bow and the animation earns its full runtime. Every time I back in lane I sit in it a second longer than I should. No new VO though. Kevin M. Connolly’s base voice lines stay intact, zero changes there.

The Masque of the Black Rose line, splash art, and release

Masque of the Black Rose dropped January 2025 as one of Riot’s bigger narrative skinline launches. The lore ties into the Black Rose – Noxian secret society, aristocratic power games, manipulation behind gilded masks. Vladimir slots into that so naturally it almost feels unfair to the rest of the set: Samira, Renata Glasc, Elise, Ezreal, Katarina all sharing the lineup.

Roanna Peroz handled the splash here. Kudos Productions contributed to the visual direction. (Random aside: this splash has been my phone wallpaper since release day and I regret nothing.) Vladimir mid-bow, masquerade mask in one hand, the Black Rose setting framing everything behind him. Credit to Roanna Peroz – the composition nails exactly the tone the skin is going for.

No chromas on this one. Sits in the shop permanently, available now. Loot eligible too, so you can roll for it through chests if you’d rather go that route.

Should you buy Masque of the Black Rose Vladimir?

Straight talk: if you main Vladimir, yes. The VFX changes and new recall push this above most of his Standard-tier catalog in terms of actual in-game feel. The Masque of the Black Rose skinline fits this champion so cleanly that the theming alone carries weight before you even see the Q animation fire off for the first time.

Price is listed as Special – tied to the event structure around the skinline launch. Check in-client for the current number. For a Standard skin with new VFX and a new recall, the value holds up. Spammed maybe 15 games in Diamond with this across top lane and mid fill in the weeks after release. Crimson-smoke Q never got old. If the gothic masquerade aesthetic is your thing and you play Vladimir, lock it in.
