Vladimir consuming the stars just makes sense as a concept. Been maining this champion in Diamond for three seasons and the moment I saw Cosmic Devourer Vladimir in the client, I locked it in without even watching the preview. The Cosmic skinline fits Vlad’s whole thing: a being that sustains itself by draining others, scaled up to a cosmic level. Banger concept. The execution backs it up.
What Cosmic Devourer Vladimir actually changes
The VFX work here is thorough. Q (Transfusion) loses all the red blood and becomes a stream of cosmic energy with star particle trails. Every single cast just looks clean in lane – I been spamming this in Diamond since it dropped in late 2020 and the Q animation alone keeps me on this skin. The W, Sanguine Pool, turns into this dark void-liquid effect, like you’re submerging into a pocket dimension. Enemies trying to chase you get the visual of watching their target disappear into a black hole. Genuinely terrifying from the other side of the lane.
E (Tides of Blood) fans out in layered cosmic wave patterns, good contrast between the purple-blue glow and the dark base. Stacking E charges in a teamfight poke comp while these waves radiate out looks properly menacing. The R, Hemoplague, spreads as a cosmic corruption effect across the backline, glowing as it procs. Late-game Vlad with this ult active? Might be the best single moment in the whole skin.
The custom recall sells it too. Vladimir floats up into a starfield and gets absorbed into a cosmic singularity before reappearing. Seen maybe three people use this skin in my Diamond games all season and every time that recall plays out, someone in chat asks about it. Good reaction. No new VO, base voice lines stay, which is fine for a 1350 Epic.
Release, the splash, and Cosmic skinline context
Cosmic Devourer Vladimir dropped November 24, 2020. Deep into preseason 11, so most players were distracted by the item rework and missed it entirely. Xiao Guang Sun and West Studio painted the splash, and it’s genuinely one of the better pieces in the Cosmic catalog – Vladimir pulling nebulae into himself against a deep-space backdrop, the scale implied by the surrounding void. (Random aside: this splash has been my phone lock screen for two years, the composition is that good.)
The Cosmic and Dark Cosmic themes have been two of Riot’s more coherent high-concept lines. Vladimir as the Devourer variant slots in cleanly – he consumes to survive mechanically, consuming the cosmos in the skin narrative. Every champion in the Cosmic series embodies an aspect of the universe, and Vlad draining existence itself makes more thematic sense than I expected going in. Thematic coherence. Riot nailed this brief.
8 chromas on this one. Tanzanite hits the mage fantasy hardest: deep purple that reads cleaner in-game than the default cosmic blue. Obsidian goes fully dark if you want to lean into the void energy rather than the nebula glow. Rose Quartz is the wild card – softer palette, still recognizably cosmic, just different enough to get comments in champion select when someone’s never seen it before.
Is Cosmic Devourer Vladimir worth 1350 RP?
So is it worth it? Full VFX replacement on Q/W/E/R, a custom recall, 8 chromas. Shop has it, permanent catalog, nothing behind a vault rotation. For this Epic price point, the production value is above average. The Cosmic skinline gives Vlad a thematic identity that his legacy skins – Nosferatu, Count Vladimir – just dont offer at the same production level.
Not gonna lie, I tried going back to Soulstealer Vladimir for a week last November and switched back after maybe eight games. The VFX clarity on Cosmic Devourer Vladimir is just better for reading your own ability timing in ranked play. If you’re one-tricking Vlad through mid lane and want the best-looking skin in his lineup, this is the pick. Worth 1350 if you main him.
