First time I saw Cosmic Charger Hecarim load into my game I thought someone was running a custom skin. The purple and gold cosmic VFX on a champion that big just hits different on the Rift. Been running this in Diamond for a while now and it still catches me off guard sometimes when I E through a ward and the trail lights up like a galaxy collapsing behind me.
What Cosmic Charger actually brings to the table
So this is an Epic tier skin at 1350 RP, and for that price point you get the full package. New model, new VFX on every ability, new recall animation. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, but honestly Hecarim’s base voice is already menacing enough that I dont mind.
The Q feels cleaner than base. Each Rampage swing throws out these cosmic particle effects, purples and deep blues swirling around the blade. Not sure if it’s just me but the Q animation actually feels slightly faster with this skin. Placebo probably, but I swear by it. The W drain circle becomes this nebula-looking field around Hecarim, way more readable than base which is nice for teamfights where you need to track your healing zone.
E is the star here. Pun intended. When you activate Devastating Charge, Hecarim’s entire body lights up with cosmic energy and the trail behind him turns into this streaking comet effect. Ganking bot lane last Tuesday around 2 AM with this skin active and watching the enemy ADC panic flash into my E knockback. Beautiful. The impact VFX on the E hit sends out these cosmic ripples that look premium.
R is solid too. Onslaught of Shadows sends out spectral riders that now look like cosmic entities charging through space. The fear zone gets this deep purple cosmic overlay. In a 5v5 teamfight the ult VFX really pop against the base Rift textures. Played maybe 40 games with this skin in one week when it dropped and the ult never got old visually.
The recall has Hecarim rearing up into some kind of cosmic rift portal thing. Short, clean, no filler animation. Good stuff.
The Cosmic line and where this fits
Released November 24, 2020. Late season 10. Xiao Guang Sun and West Studio handled the artwork, and they captured the celestial horse fantasy perfectly. The splash has Hecarim charging through what looks like the birth of a star system, gold armor gleaming against deep space purples.
The Cosmic skinline is one of Riot’s more consistent themes. Cosmic Charger Hecarim sits alongside skins like Cosmic Reaver Kassadin and Cosmic Enchantress Lulu. Kinda feels like Hecarim was designed for this line from the start. A spectral centaur galloping through the cosmos just works thematically. The Cosmic roster is stacked but Hecarim holds his own in it.
7 chromas total if you want variety. Tanzanite is my personal favorite, the deep purple goes even harder on the cosmic vibe and reads cleanly in lane. Obsidian turns the whole thing dark and edgy, solid pick if you’re tired of the bright palette. Pearl is interesting too, gives this ethereal white-gold look that almost makes it feel like a different skin entirely. (Random aside: I use the Tanzanite chroma as my desktop wallpaper and nobody has questioned it yet.) The rest fill out the color wheel but those three are the standout picks.
Where Cosmic Charger ranks for Hecarim mains
Real verdict: Hecarim has a surprisingly deep skin catalog. High Noon Hecarim exists. Arcade exists. Elderwood exists. Cosmic Charger sits comfortably in the top three for me.
The VFX clarity is actually better than some of his more expensive options. Could be wrong here but I think the E trail on Cosmic Charger is the most readable of any Hecarim skin, which matters when you’re trying to judge engage distance in Diamond+ games where people actually react to your ganks. Been maining Hecarim with this skin through two seasons of jungle clear changes and it still feels crisp.
1350 RP feels fair for what you get. Shop has it, permanent availability, no vault nonsense. If you’re a Hecarim one-trick this is a must-own. If you play him occasionally in your jungle rotation, its still worth picking up on sale. The cosmic theme ages well visually and the VFX haven’t been power-crept by newer releases yet.
Skip it only if you already own High Noon and exclusively run that. Otherwise, Cosmic Charger Hecarim earns its spot in any Hecarim main’s collection. Top pick for Hecarim mains who want something that looks premium without dropping Legendary money. That ranked game where my Kayn inted three times pre-6, I was still having fun just watching the E particles. Says something about the skin quality when it keeps you engaged even in a loss.
