First time I saw Arcade Hecarim load into my game I thought someone modded their client. The whole champion just looks like he galloped out of a 16-bit side scroller and honestly thats exactly the energy I want from a skin. Bright neon pixels replacing the Shadow Isles doom horse. Big shift.
The pixel horse in action
Arcade Hecarim turns the whole kit into a retro gaming tribute. The model swaps out Hecarim’s ghostly armor for blocky pixel plating in bright blues, greens, and purples. His weapon looks like something you’d swing in an old beat-em-up. Not subtle at all and I think that’s the point.
Q spam in lane feels different because of the VFX. Each Rampage hit throws out pixel particles that scatter on impact. Been running this in Diamond for a while now and the visual feedback on Q actually helps me track hits in messy teamfights. Could be wrong here but the particles seem slightly more readable than base Hecarim’s murky green swirls.
W is where it gets fun. Spirit of Dread creates this arcade circle effect around you, pixelated edges and all. When you’re diving the backline and healing off the AOE damage it looks like you activated a power-up. E charge leaves a trail of pixel dust behind you as you gallop into the engage. Simple change – huge impact on how satisfying it feels to run someone down.
The ult though. Devastating Charge into R on their ADC and the screen fills with retro pixel ghosts. Onslaught of Shadows with the Arcade VFX is genuinely one of the better looking abilities on an Epic tier skin from 2013. Played maybe 40 games one weekend last March just spamming Hecarim jungle and the ult never got old. The pixel spectral riders trailing behind you look clean even on lower settings.
Recall animation has Hecarim playing what looks like an arcade cabinet. Nice touch. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, but the sound effects on abilities have that chiptune quality that sells the whole retro package.
When Arcade Hecarim dropped and who made it
Arcade Hecarim released August 21, 2013. Season 3 era. Michal Ivan and Puppetworks Animation Studio handled the splash, they captured the vibe perfectly. The splash has this dramatic pixel explosion background that still holds up honestly.
The Arcade: Heroes skinline is one of Riot’s older thematic lines and Hecarim fits it better than most champions in the set. Not gonna lie, something about a ghostly centaur reimagined as a retro game boss just works. The Arcade line gave us some bangers and some misses but Hecarim lands solidly in the banger category.
No chromas on this one. Zero. Kinda feels like a missed opportunity because I’d kill for an 8-bit red variant or a Game Boy green colorway. But it is what it is. 1350 RP price tag, permanent shop availability. Sits in the shop whenever you want it.
Should you lock in Arcade Hecarim?
Real verdict: for 1350 RP this skin delivers. You get new VFX on every ability, a solid recall, and a model that completely transforms the champion fantasy. For an Epic from 2013 it punches above its weight. Seen maybe 5 of these in my ranked games all season which means you won’t run into yourself every other match (random aside: my duo partner calls this skin “the Nintendo horse” and I cant even argue with that).
If you’re a Hecarim main who likes ganking bot lane at mach speed, this skin makes every engage look like a final boss entrance. Worth 1350 RP if you main Hecarim. The only real competition is High Noon or Cosmic Charger for flashier modern VFX, but Arcade has a personality those skins dont match. Last Tuesday around 2 AM I had a penta with this skin in a late-game teamfight at dragon pit and the pixel explosion was chef’s kiss. S-tier Hecarim cosmetic for the price point. Skip it only if you hate fun color palettes and retro aesthetics, otherwise lock it in.
