First time I saw Battle Boss Blitzcrank load into my game I thought someone modded in a Mega Man boss. Big pixelated fist, chunky 8-bit design, the whole retro arcade aesthetic turned up to eleven. Been running this skin on and off since season 5 and honestly its one of those skins that just never gets old. The pixel art theme carries hard.
What the Arcade treatment does to Blitzcrank
The model rework here is substantial for an Epic tier skin. Blitzcrank gets a full arcade cabinet makeover with blocky, angular armor plating that looks like it was ripped straight out of a 16-bit side-scroller. His fist, the signature Rocket Grab on Q, launches with pixel trail particles that shatter on impact. Clean visual read in lane and honestly easier to track than base Blitzcrank’s hook in chaotic teamfights.
W activation gives him that speed boost glow but now it pulses with retro green grid lines. Kinda feels like watching an old CRT monitor warm up. Power Fist on E gets a pixelated uppercut effect, and the knockup particles burst into little arcade squares. Not groundbreaking but the consistency across all abilities sells the fantasy.
The ult is where it gets fun though. Static Field procs with a massive pixel explosion that radiates outward. Played maybe 150 games with this skin last season and the ult VFX still catches people off guard visually. Had a game last Wednesday where I flash-ulted into a clumped dragon fight and my duo said it looked like a screen transition from Street Fighter. Fair point.
Recall animation has Blitzcrank playing an arcade machine. Simple concept, executed well. You know what surprised me? The sound design on the recall. Little chiptune jingle that plays while he mashes buttons. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, but the SFX package compensates.
The Arcade Battle Bosses lineup and release context
Battle Boss Blitzcrank dropped August 19, 2015. Mid season 5. Alvin Lee nailed the splash, the composition puts Blitzcrank front and center with that menacing boss-fight energy. Red background, dramatic pose, arcade cabinet elements framing the whole piece. (Random aside: this splash was my desktop wallpaper for like three months straight back in 2016.)
Part of the Arcade: Battle Bosses skinline alongside Battle Boss Brand and Battle Boss Malzahar in the same wave. The Battle Bosses are the villain counterparts to the regular Arcade skins. Riot went hard on this thematic split and I think Blitzcrank fits the “final boss” archetype better than most. Big robot, big fist, pixelated doom. The Arcade Battle Bosses line kept expanding over the years and Blitzcrank remains one of the stronger entries.
8 chromas total. Sapphire is my go-to for ranked because the deep blue reads cleanly against Summoner’s Rift, doesnt blend into anything. Ruby turns the whole skin into an aggressive red that screams “I am hooking you under tower and I dont care.” Pearl is interesting if you want that washed-out pastel vibe, looks almost ghostly in game. Rest of them are fine but those three stood out across my games this season.
Is Battle Boss Blitzcrank worth 1350 RP?
Real verdict: 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New model, full VFX package, custom recall, solid SFX. For a support main or a Blitzcrank one-trick this is probably the best value pickup in his skin catalog. Not gonna lie, I keep coming back to this over Space Groove and even Lancer Paragon because the visual clarity on Q is just better.
Could be wrong here but I think Battle Boss Blitzcrank ages better than most 2015 skins because the pixel art style is inherently timeless. It wasnt trying to be photorealistic, so it doesnt look dated the way some skins from that era do. Still in the shop, permanent availability, grab it whenever.
If you’re climbing with Blitzcrank and want a skin that actually helps your gameplay through cleaner VFX reads on hook, this is the one. Skip the flashier options unless you specifically want the mecha knight aesthetic from the Lancer skins. Battle Boss Blitzcrank is the Blitzcrank skin if you can only own one from the mid-price range. Been spamming this in Diamond for two splits now and not switching anytime soon. The pixel fist connects, the peel looks crisp, the ult pops. Good skin.
