Goalkeeper Blitzcrank

Not gonna lie, the first time I saw Goalkeeper Blitzcrank in a loading screen I thought someone was trolling. Big steam golem in a goalkeeper jersey and shorts. It shouldnt work. But theres something about the absurdity of Blitzcrank standing in goal that just hits right, especially if you play him support and spend half the game peeling for your ADC anyway.

What the skin actually changes

Real talk though. This is a 520 RP Standard skin from 2010. You get a model swap and thats the package. Blitzcrank trades his usual plating for a green and yellow goalkeeper kit, complete with padded gloves that somehow make his Rocket Grab look like hes diving for a save. No new VFX. Voice lines stay base. No recall animation either, this predates recalls even being a thing Riot cared about skinning.

The color scheme is clean for what it is. Green jersey, yellow shorts, the classic goalkeeper look. His fists have these oversized glove pads that read well in lane. When you throw out Q it kinda looks like he’s reaching for a penalty kick save. Could be wrong here but I think thats intentional design, not just happy accident.

Played maybe 30 games with this skin back in season 4 when I pulled it from a mystery gift. The model holds up surprisingly well for something this old. Simple change – big impact on the vibe. You hook someone and it feels like you just made a match-winning save. My duo at the time kept calling out “SAVE” in voice chat every time I landed a grab on their Jinx. Good times.

The Soccer Cup line and when this dropped

Goalkeeper Blitzcrank released June 24, 2010. Season 1 era. Ancient by League standards. Part of the Soccer Cup skinline, which Riot rolled out to coincide with the World Cup that year. The line includes a few other champions in football gear, Goalkeeper Maokai being the other goalkeeper rep.

No splash artist credited in the data, which tracks for 2010 skins. Riot wasnt exactly documenting their art pipeline back then. The splash itself is dated but charming. Blitzcrank in full goalkeeper stance, ready to block. (Random aside: I used this splash as my Discord avatar for like three months during the 2022 World Cup just to confuse people.)

Legacy vault skin. You cant just walk into the shop and buy it. Sits in the vault and comes out during special events, usually around major football tournaments or the Your Shop rotation if you’re lucky. Hextech crafting is your other option. Seen maybe two of these in my Diamond games all of last season, possibly three. Rare pickup.

Should you grab Goalkeeper Blitzcrank?

Straight talk: 520 RP for a Legacy skin is cheap. The problem is actually getting your hands on it. If it shows up in Your Shop or you roll it from a chest, lock it in without thinking twice. For Blitzcrank mains who want something goofy and different from the usual robot aesthetic, this delivers.

Been maining Blitzcrank on and off since season 3 and I keep coming back to this one during summer specifically. Might be overthinking it but there’s a seasonal energy to goalkeeper Blitz that just works when the weather is warm and you’re spamming ranked at 1 AM on a Tuesday. The skin doesnt compete with iBlitzcrank or Space Groove for raw quality, obviously. Those have new particles, animations, the full treatment. But Goalkeeper Blitzcrank has character. Its a time capsule from early League.

Skip it if you need flashy VFX on your hooks. Worth it if you appreciate the meme factor and the rarity. 520 RP well spent for the vibes alone. Best novelty Blitzcrank skin, and I’ll stand by that even with Definitely Not existing.
