Piltover Customs Blitzcrank

First time I saw Piltover Customs Blitzcrank in a loading screen I thought someone modded a hot rod into the Rift. Not gonna lie, the concept is so stupid it loops back around to being great. Blitzcrank as a custom car. Chrome bumpers, exhaust pipes, the whole garage fantasy. Been running this one on and off since like season 4 and it still turns heads in Diamond lobbies.

The hot rod treatment

So what does 1350 RP actually get you here. Blitzcrank gets a full visual overhaul turning him into this retro American muscle car robot. Think 1950s hot rod culture but welded onto a steam golem. Red paint job, exposed engine block on his chest, chrome detailing everywhere. The model work is solid even by today’s standards which is wild for a skin from 2011.

The VFX are where this Epic skin earns its keep. Rocket Grab shoots out with this fiery exhaust trail, feels like youre launching a tow cable from a drag racer. The Q particles have this orange-red heat shimmer that reads well against most Rift backgrounds. Overdrive gets engine rev effects and you can practically hear the turbo spooling up. Power Fist has the satisfying crunch you want from an E proc in lane. Static Field pops with this mechanical energy burst.

Kinda feels like Riot designed this skin for the Blitzcrank mains who wanted something flashy without going full meme. It sits in this sweet spot between silly concept and clean execution. Played maybe 40 games with it last month in bot lane specifically and the hook animation feels crisp. Could be wrong here but I think the Q hitbox reads slightly differently with the exhaust trail VFX, makes opponents misjudge the width sometimes.

Voice lines stay base. No new VO which is expected for an Epic from this era. Standard voice, no changes. The recall is also default, nothing custom there. But honestly the model and VFX carry hard enough that I dont mind.

Piltover Customs and when it dropped

Piltover Customs Blitzcrank released March 7, 2011. Early season 1 territory. The Piltover Customs line is a small collection, shares the theme with Heimerdinger’s version. Both skins lean into this grease monkey workshop aesthetic that fits Piltover’s inventor lore perfectly.

No chromas on this one. Zero. Which is a shame because I’d kill for a matte black or racing green variant. The base red is clean but some color options would push this skin further. (Random aside: my duo partner calls this skin “Lightning McBlitz” and I cant unhear it now.)

The Piltover Customs skinline never really expanded beyond these two skins. Feels like a missed opportunity honestly. Imagine a Piltover Customs Camille or Vi. The hot rod fantasy has legs that Riot never explored. Still in the shop though, permanent availability, grab it whenever.

Is Piltover Customs Blitzcrank worth the RP?

Real verdict: for 1350 RP this is a strong Blitzcrank skin. Not the flashiest option he has these days with Space Groove and Victorious existing, but Piltover Customs has this old school charm that newer skins cant replicate. The hot rod concept is unique in his catalog. Nothing else in Blitzcrank’s lineup goes for the car aesthetic.

Best comparison is probably Battle Boss at the same price point. Battle Boss goes arcade, Piltover Customs goes retro Americana. Different vibes entirely. I think Piltover Customs ages better because the design is timeless, that classic car look doesnt go out of style the way pixel art references can.

Real talk though, if you’re a Blitzcrank one-trick climbing through ranked this season, you probably want this in rotation. The hook VFX are clean, the model pops in teamfights, and the exhaust effects on W give you that psychological edge when you’re running at the backline. Last Tuesday around 2 AM I landed a blind hook over dragon pit wall with this skin and my ADC typed “that grab had NOS on it.” Worth 1350 RP for that moment alone. Top pick for Blitzcrank mains who want style without the meme factor. Fair price for the package.
