First time I saw iBlitzcrank load into a game I thought someone modded their client. The whole aesthetic is so clean and minimal compared to Blitzcrank’s usual clunky robot look that it felt out of place on the Rift. Not in a bad way. More like someone dropped an Apple product into a steampunk universe and somehow it worked. Been running this skin on and off since season 3 and it still holds up surprisingly well for something that came out over a decade ago.
The VFX and visual overhaul on iBlitzcrank
Blitzcrank gets a full model redesign here. Gone is the rusty Zaun aesthetic, replaced with this sleek white and blue shell that looks like someone designed a robot at a tech conference. The proportions feel tighter, less bulky. Smooth curves instead of sharp angles. Kinda feels like Riot was doing a parody of consumer electronics back in 2013 and honestly the joke still lands.
The new VFX carry this skin hard. Q hook has this digital blue trail that reads cleanly in lane, which matters a lot when youre trying to land grabs through minion waves. The particle work on W is subtle but the speed boost gets a tech-overlay effect. E uppercut sparks with data fragments. Big fan of the ult passive – the lightning arcs have this circuit board pattern to them that most people probably never notice in teamfights but once you see it you cant unsee it.
No new voice lines though. Voice stays default, which is fine because Duncan Watt’s original Blitzcrank VO has this robotic charm that fits the iBlitzcrank theme anyway. Not sure if it’s just me but the base voice actually sounds more fitting on this skin than on default Blitzcrank. The mechanical filter on the original lines pairs well with the sleek tech look.
No new recall animation either. For a 1350 RP Epic skin released in early 2013 that wasnt unusual. Riot started adding custom recalls to the 1350 tier a bit later. The model and VFX changes do enough heavy lifting that I dont feel cheated.
Program line and the 2013 release window
iBlitzcrank dropped March 1, 2013. Early season 3. Part of the Program skinline, which at the time was just getting started. Program Lissandra came later, then Camille, then Nami. The line has this whole digital consciousness vibe going. Blitzcrank fits it naturally because he’s already a sentient machine – just swap the Zaun workshop origins for a Silicon Valley lab and you’re there.
The Program line is one of those skinlines that Riot never fully committed to expanding. Maybe eight or nine skins total across all champions. (Random aside: I still think Program Soraka is the worst skin in the entire line and nothing will change my mind on that.) iBlitzcrank stands out as one of the better entries. The design language is consistent and the execution is clean for its era.
No chromas available for this one. Zero. Which is a shame because I think a black and gold variant would go hard. Riot probably wont revisit it at this point given how old the skin is. Permanent shop availability though, so you can grab it any time for 1350 RP.
Where iBlitzcrank sits in the Blitzcrank lineup
Real verdict: iBlitzcrank competes with Space Groove Blitz & Crank and Lancer Paragon for the best Blitzcrank skin slot. Different vibes entirely. Space Groove is goofy and fun, Lancer Paragon is the flashy mecha pick, and iBlitzcrank is the clean minimalist option. Could be wrong here but I think iBlitzcrank ages better than most because the design is simple enough that it doesnt look dated the way overly detailed 2013 skins do.
Last weekend around midnight I had a ranked game where I landed maybe six hooks in lane phase with this skin and my ADC typed “iBlitzcrank diff” in all chat. Small moment. Made me appreciate how visible the Q particle is on this skin compared to Boom Boom or Goalkeeper where the hook blends into the ground texture. In Diamond lobbies where reaction times are tight, that visual clarity actually matters for the person playing against you too.
1350 RP feels fair for what you get. The model is a complete overhaul, the VFX package is solid, and the Program fantasy is well executed. Been spamming Blitzcrank in ranked this season for peel comps and iBlitzcrank stays in rotation alongside maybe two other skins. If you main Blitzcrank and want something that looks modern without going full mecha or silly, this is the pick. Skip it if you already own Lancer Paragon since that covers the “clean tech Blitzcrank” niche at a higher fidelity, but for everyone else iBlitzcrank earns its spot. S-tier Blitzcrank cosmetic for the price point. Might be overthinking it but I genuinely believe this skin makes your hooks look faster to opponents, and that half-second hesitation from the enemy backline is worth 1350 RP alone.
