Coven Morgana

First time I saw Coven Morgana load in on the enemy team, I genuinely paused for a second. Not because I was scared of the Morgana pick (okay maybe a little, binding anxiety is real) but because the visual presence is just something else. This skin hit the shop April 16, 2020 and I remember locking it in immediately on release day. Been my go-to Morgana skin since season 10, and honestly nothing else she has comes close.

What Coven Morgana actually brings to the table

So this is a full Legendary at 1820 RP, meaning new voice lines, new VFX, new recall, the whole package. Erica Lindbeck voices this version of Morgana and she absolutely crushed it. The VO has this dark, commanding tone that fits the Coven fantasy perfectly. Not gonna lie, I catch myself just standing in fountain sometimes listening to the idle lines before heading to lane.

The Q is where it starts getting good. Dark Binding comes out with this deep violet and thorn energy that reads way cleaner than base Morgana’s purple blob. You know what surprised me? How much easier it is to track the hitbox visually. Might be overthinking it but I swear I land more bindings with this skin. Placebo? Probably. Do I care? No.

W drops this ritual circle on the ground with thorny vines creeping outward. Looks brutal under tower during a dive. The E shield wraps around allies with this dark golden barrier that has a completely different silhouette from default. In teamfights where everything is chaos, you can actually see your shield pop on the ADC without squinting.

R is the centerpiece though. Soul Shackles with Coven Morgana turns every engage into a horror movie scene. The chains look like cursed thorns reaching out from Morgana, and when they proc the stun, theres this burst of dark energy that fills the screen. Had a game last Wednesday where I Flash-R’d into a 4-man clump at dragon and my duo literally said “that looked cinematic” in voice chat. He wasnt wrong.

The recall animation has Morgana performing some kind of dark ritual. Very on-brand for the skinline. She kneels down, channels dark magic upward, wings spread wide. Clean execution. Short enough that it doesnt feel like it drags but detailed enough to be satisfying.

The Coven skinline and where Morgana fits

Coven as a skinline is one of Riot’s strongest thematic sets. Period. The whole dark witch coven aesthetic just works, and Morgana fits it like she was designed for it. Alex ‘alexplank’ Flores nailed the splash – the composition with Morgana’s wings framing the dark forest background is genuinely one of the best splash arts in the game. I had it as my desktop wallpaper for maybe six months straight.

Released April 16, 2020, right in the middle of season 10. The Coven lineup at that point was already strong with Camille and Lissandra, but Morgana elevated the whole line. (Random aside: the Coven universe lore page is actually worth reading if you havent, Riot put real effort into it.)

5 chromas total for Coven Morgana. Obsidian is the one I run most often because the dark tones make the VFX pop even harder against the Rift. Tanzanite shifts the palette into a deeper purple that reads almost royal. Dark Ritual is the event-exclusive one and it goes for this crimson-meets-teal combination that shouldnt work but somehow does. Ruby and Pearl round out the set but I keep coming back to Obsidian. Could be wrong here but I think the darker chromas just suit the theme better than the lighter options.

Morgana support in ranked with this skin

Spammed this in Diamond for two full seasons as my primary Morgana skin. The visual clarity on abilities matters more than people think for a support. When you’re trying to peel for your ADC in a late-game teamfight, knowing exactly where your W pool ends or seeing your E shield clearly on a teammate can be the difference between winning and losing a fight. Coven Morgana delivers on both counts.

The auto attack animation feels smooth too. CSing with Morgana support (yeah I take cs when my ADC backs, fight me) feels slightly better with this skin. The wing movements during the AA animation have a weight to them that base Morgana lacks. Been playing maybe 300 games with this skin across two seasons and I still notice small details I missed before. Last Tuesday I realized the homeguard run animation has unique wing positioning. Small stuff like that adds up.

Voice lines stay fresh even after hundreds of games. That’s the Legendary advantage. Base Morgana VO gets old fast, but Erica Lindbeck’s performance here has enough variety that it doesnt grate on you during long ranked sessions. Real talk though, some of the kill lines against Kayle are genuinely chilling.

Should you buy Coven Morgana?

Straight talk: this is the Morgana skin if you can only own one. 1820 RP is full Legendary price and it earns every bit of it. New VO, new VFX on every ability, a recall that actually looks good, and a thematic that fits Morgana better than arguably any other skin she has. Majestic Empress is nice. Bewitching is fun. But Coven is the definitive Morgana experience.

Shop has it permanently, so no rush, but if you play Morgana even semi-regularly in ranked or normals, this should be your next purchase. Worth 1820 RP if you main Morgana, no question. The Obsidian chroma on top of it is chef’s kiss levels of good. Kinda feels like Riot knew exactly what they were doing when they put Morgana in this skinline. S-tier cosmetic. Lock it in.
