First time I saw Coven Ashe load in, I thought someone was running a custom skin. The dark witch aesthetic on a champion who normally reads as icy Freljord royalty felt like a hard pivot. Played maybe 40 games with it that first week in Diamond and honestly the vibe shift alone kept me locked in. Ashe as an occult huntress just works in a way I wasnt expecting.

What Coven Ashe actually brings to the table

This is a 1350 RP Epic tier skin so you get the full VFX overhaul plus a new recall animation. No new voice lines, voice stays default. But the visual package carries hard enough that I barely notice.

The Q steroid particles shift from ice blue to this deep violet and gold moth energy. Feels like you’re channeling something ancient every time you pop Ranger’s Focus. W volley spreads dark feathers across the lane, and the hitbox reads cleaner than base in my opinion. Could be wrong here but I swear the W particles on this skin make it easier to track in teamfights compared to the standard ice arrows.

E hawk scout turns into a spectral moth creature. Gorgeous. The trail it leaves across the Rift has that gothic purple glow that fits the Coven fantasy perfectly. Been using it to scout dragon pit around 2 AM last Saturday and the contrast against the river is chef’s kiss.

R is where the skin really earns its price tag. The Enchanted Crystal Arrow transforms into this massive dark projectile with moth wings spreading out behind it. Hit a four-man ult in bot lane specifically two patches after release and my support literally typed “that arrow looked illegal.” The stun impact VFX pop with dark energy and feathers. Strong visual feedback.

Recall animation has Ashe performing some kind of dark ritual with moths circling her. Short, clean, thematic. No complaints.

The Coven line and where Ashe fits

Coven dropped August 12, 2021. Late into season 11 if I remember right. West Studio handled the artwork, they captured the dark enchantress energy without going overboard on the edginess. The Coven skinline is one of Riot’s more consistent themes. Morgana, Lissandra, Zyra, Camille – the roster reads like a who’s who of champions that benefit from the dark feminine aesthetic. Ashe slots in naturally as the huntress archetype within the coven.

Real talk though, Ashe has a stacked skin catalog. PROJECT, Cosmic Queen, Fae Dragon. Competition is fierce. But Coven fills a niche none of those touch. If you want dark and gothic on your ADC pick, this is the only option worth considering.

9 chromas total for this one, which is a lot. Obsidian goes full dark mode and honestly reads like a completely different skin. Tanzanite pushes the purple deeper into royal territory, probably my go-to for ranked. Dark Ritual is the event exclusive chroma with that deep teal and crimson split – hard to get now but it hits different from the rest. (Random aside: I have the Dark Ritual chroma as my phone lock screen, the color combo is that clean.)

How Coven stacks up against Ashe’s other skins

Ashe mains have options. Too many options maybe. PROJECT Ashe runs 1820 RP and gives you full VO plus that cyberpunk fantasy. Cosmic Queen is another strong Epic at the same 1350 price point. Fae Dragon leans whimsical.

Coven occupies the dark fantasy lane exclusively. No other Ashe skin comes close to this aesthetic. If you’re an Ashe one-trick who plays late-game scaling comps and wants something with edge, this is it. The VFX on Q and R alone justify the price for mains who care about how their champion reads in lane.

Not gonna lie, I keep coming back to this skin over skins that cost more. The particle clarity in teamfights is genuinely good. When you’re kiting the enemy backline and popping Q, the dark purple trails help you track your own autos better than some of her flashier options. Might be overthinking it but I think there’s a readability advantage here.

Should you buy it?

Verdict time. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX across all abilities, solid recall, 9 chromas if you want variety, and an aesthetic that no other Ashe skin provides. Shop has it, permanent availability.

Skip it if you already own PROJECT and don’t care about the gothic vibe. But if you main Ashe and you’ve been grinding ranked with base skin or one of her older 975 RP options, Coven Ashe is a massive upgrade. Been maining Ashe with this skin since season 11 and I still haven’t gotten bored of the R animation. Top pick for Ashe mains who want their poke and engage tools to look menacing instead of pretty. That Enchanted Crystal Arrow flying across the map with dark moth wings trailing behind it – opponents respect it more. Or at least thats what I tell myself when I miss.
