Majestic Empress Morgana

First time I saw Majestic Empress Morgana load into my game, I thought someone was running a custom skin. The splash alone stopped me mid-cs. Morgana has always had this dark fallen angel vibe going on, and then Riot just drops this regal eastern empress version that flips her whole aesthetic. Been running this as my main Morgana skin since late 2019 and honestly havent looked back.

How Majestic Empress Morgana actually looks in game

The model is a complete departure from base Morgana. Gone is the purple-dark aesthetic, replaced with flowing white and gold robes that make her look like actual royalty on the Rift. Her wings got the full treatment too – they shimmer with this jade-gold energy that catches light during teamfights. Not gonna lie, the silhouette reads so clean from the backline you almost forget you’re playing a support.

VFX is where this Epic tier skin earns its keep. Her Q, Dark Binding, fires off with this golden energy trail wrapped in jade particles. Looks distinct enough from base that your lane opponent might actually hesitate for a split second. Her W pool shifts to warm gold tones on the ground, and her E shield wraps the target in ornate golden filigree. Pretty. The ult chains during Soul Shackles turn into these elaborate golden links that feel heavier, more threatening. Played maybe 200 games with this skin and the R visual alone makes it worth locking in.

New recall animation too. Morgana does this graceful empress bow with falling petals around her. Short, elegant, fits the theme. Voice lines stay base though, no VO refresh on this one.

(Random aside: my duo partner literally bought Morgana just because he saw this recall in our ranked game. That’s marketing.)

The Immortal Journey line and release context

Majestic Empress Morgana dropped September 26, 2019. Late into season 9 I think. Part of the Immortal Journey skinline, which is one of Riot’s better thematic sets. The whole eastern mythology fantasy thing works for certain champs and Morgana fits it naturally.

Clare Wong and West Studio handled the artwork. They cooked on this one. The splash has Morgana seated on what looks like a celestial throne with these massive ornate wings fanned out behind her. The color palette in the splash is warmer than what you get in game, but the vibe translates well enough. Kinda feels like the splash promises a Legendary and the skin delivers a strong Epic.

8 chromas total for this skin. Tanzanite is my go-to, the deep purple actually brings back some of that classic Morgana energy while keeping the empress silhouette. Heavenly Crane is the standout pick though – white and red color scheme that reads like a completely different skin. Could be wrong here but I think Heavenly Crane might be one of the best chromas Riot has put out across any skin. Sapphire works too if you want that icy royal look for your peel comp games.

Where Majestic Empress sits in Morgana’s skin lineup

Morgana has a stacked wardrobe at this point. Coven Morgana exists and thats the obvious competition for the “best Morgana skin” conversation. Bewitching is solid. Blackthorn has its fans from the old guard. But Majestic Empress Morgana occupies this unique space where she looks elegant instead of dark or spooky.

If you’re a Morgana main who plays her support and wants to look clean while landing Q’s from the bot lane specifically, this is the pick. Coven is better for the mid lane dark mage fantasy. Different moods. Last Tuesday I swapped between both across a five game session and honestly Majestic Empress Morgana felt smoother, though that might just be placebo from the gold VFX being easier on my eyes at 2 AM.

The Immortal Journey skins in general have aged well. They dont rely on flashy tech gimmicks, just strong art direction. Morgana’s version might be the best executed of the set.

Should you buy it?

Real verdict: 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX on every ability, clean model, great recall, 8 chromas if you want variety. No new voice lines, but that’s standard for Epic tier. Not sure if it’s just me but Majestic Empress Morgana has this quality where it makes your bindings feel more satisfying to land. Probably confirmation bias. Dont care.

If you main Morgana and want something outside the dark/gothic lane, this is your skin. If you only play her as a pocket support pick in ranked, maybe wait for a sale or grab it through Your Shop.
