Dawnbringer Renekton

First time I saw Dawnbringer Renekton on the PBE cycle I thought Riot finally gave the croc something elegant. Renekton has a bunch of skins at this point but most of them lean into the rage monster angle. This one flips it. Celestial armor, golden VFX, divine energy radiating off every ability. Played maybe 40 games with it the first two weeks after launch and honestly it felt like a different champion in the best way.

What Dawnbringer Renekton actually brings to the table

The model is the star here. Renekton in white and gold celestial plate armor with these wing-like structures on his back. Not gonna lie, it reads more “paladin” than “angry crocodile” and thats kind of the point. The Dawnbringer line has always been about the light side of the cosmic duality, and Renekton fits it surprisingly well.

VFX got a full rework for this tier. Q slice sends out this radiant golden arc. Clean. W stun has these bursting light particles on impact that pop hard in teamfights, especially when you’re diving the backline. E dash leaves a trail of celestial energy behind you, and the empowered E second cast has even more particle density. R is where it gets good though. Dominus activation wraps Renekton in this expanding aura of divine light instead of the usual dark fury. The sustained damage ticks show as golden pulses around him.

Recall animation is new. Renekton channels some kind of celestial blade and strikes a pose. Simple but it works. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, which is standard for a 1350 RP Epic.

Could be wrong here but I think the auto attack animations feel slightly smoother with this skin. Might be placebo from the cleaner VFX but my cs numbers were better that first week. (Random aside: I started using this skin as a superstitious pick for promos and went 6-1, make of that what you will.)

The Dawnbringer line and where Renekton lands

Released April 20, 2023. Late season 13. Nathaniel Himawan and West Studio handled the artwork, and they captured that holy warrior energy perfectly. The Nightbringer and Dawnbringer skinline is one of Riot’s more ambitious thematic sets. You got Dawnbringer versions of champions who are usually darker in tone, and Nightbringer versions of the noble ones. Renekton getting the Dawnbringer treatment instead of Nightbringer was the right call. He’s already rage incarnate in his base kit so seeing him purified hits different.

8 chromas total. Obsidian is my pick, the dark plating with gold accents gives off a corrupted paladin vibe that I think looks better than the base white. Tanzanite runs deep purple and reads well against the Rift. Pearl exists if you want to go even brighter than the default but honestly it washes out in lane. Shop has it, permanent availability, 1350 RP.

Compared to other Renekton skins

Renekton has a stacked skin catalog. Project Renekton exists at the same price point and honestly competes hard. Hextech Renekton was the prestige chase for a while. Blackfrost is solid. But Dawnbringer Renekton occupies a unique space because nothing else in his lineup goes for the divine aesthetic. Every other Renekton skin is some variation of aggressive or monstrous. This one says “what if he wasn’t angry for once.”

Been running this in Diamond ranked since around May 2023. In my experience the skin holds up in extended play sessions better than Pool Party or Renektoy because the VFX are distinct without being noisy. When you’re splitting top and taking extended trades pre-6, clarity matters. Dawnbringer Renekton Q and W particles read cleanly against every map skin I’ve tested.

Should you buy Dawnbringer Renekton?

Real verdict: 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New model, full VFX overhaul, new recall. Standard Epic package but executed well. The Nightbringer and Dawnbringer thematic carries weight and Renekton wears it better than I expected. Not sure if it’s just me but this skin made me pick up Renekton again after dropping him in season 12. The feel of the abilities with the golden particles, the recall, the model silhouette in lane. It all clicks.

Skip it if you already own Project Renekton and feel satisfied. But if you main Renekton and want something that stands apart from the rest of his catalog, Dawnbringer is top pick for Renekton mains who want variety. Worth 1350 RP if you main Renekton. Kinda feels like Riot put real thought into this one instead of just slapping a theme onto a champion and calling it done. Played a ranked game last Saturday around midnight where I dove their Syndra under tier 2 tower with Dominus active and the golden explosion on the kill felt cinematic. That’s when you know a skin earned its price.
