Genesis Nightbringer Yasuo

First time I saw Genesis Nightbringer Yasuo load into a game I had to double-check the skin tab. Thought it was a completely different champion for half a second. The model is that far removed from base Yasuo. Not gonna lie, Riot went somewhere unexpected with this one and I think it works.

How Genesis Nightbringer changes the feel

This is a Mythic skin so expectations run high. The good news: it delivers on the visual front. Yasuo’s model gets a full overhaul with this dark celestial energy running through every animation. Q stabs feel heavier, the steel tempest VFX leave these trailing dark particles that linger on the Rift longer than you’d expect. Playing this in a ranked game last Friday around midnight, the W wind wall looked completely different from regular Nightbringer. More depth to it. Like looking through warped glass with purple-black edges.

E dashes got new trail effects. Clean.

The real showpiece is the R. Last Breath pulls the camera and the new VFX absolutely pop during teamfights. Been running this in Diamond for maybe 30 games now and every time I land a 3-man ult the particles just flood the screen in the best way possible. The recall animation ties into the Genesis theme with Yasuo channeling this unstable energy, kinda feels like they wanted to show what happens when Nightbringer power evolves past its original form.

New voice lines too. Liam O’Brien returns and the VO has this rawer edge compared to the original Nightbringer. More aggressive callouts, more lines that reference the duality theme. Could be wrong here but I think there’s specific interactions with Dawnbringer skins on the enemy team. Heard a unique line when laning against a Dawnbringer Riven two patches ago but wasnt able to confirm if it was skin-specific or just timing.

The Nightbringer line and where Genesis fits

Nightbringer and Dawnbringer is one of Riot’s strongest skinlines. Full stop. The original Nightbringer Yasuo back in 2017 set the bar for Legendary skins at the time. Genesis Nightbringer Yasuo feels like a deliberate callback that pushes the concept further.

Released October 9, 2024. Late into the season 14 cycle. Huyy Nguyen and West Studio handled the splash, and they captured something genuinely menacing. The composition pulls your eye to the sword first, then the fractured energy radiating outward. (Random aside: this splash has been my desktop background since release and I’m not tired of it yet.)

As a Mythic tier skin, Genesis Nightbringer Yasuo sits in Special pricing territory. You’re not just dropping 1350 RP for this one. The acquisition method ties into Mythic Essence or specific event shops depending on when you’re looking for it. Available now through the shop’s Mythic rotation. No chromas on this skin, which honestly makes sense. The color palette is so locked into the Genesis aesthetic that chromas would dilute it.

Worth the Mythic price for Yasuo mains?

Real verdict: if you already own regular Nightbringer Yasuo, this is the upgrade path. The Genesis version takes everything that worked about the original and layers on more detail, better particles, and that evolved VO. Spammed this in Diamond the week it dropped and it immediately replaced Spirit Blossom Yasuo in my rotation.

For Yasuo one-tricks specifically, this is S-tier. The Q and R VFX changes alone justify the grind for Mythic Essence. In my experience the auto attack animations feel slightly different too, maybe placebo, but the wind-up on the third Q tornado felt smoother to time. Played maybe 15 games in a row one Saturday and the skin never got old visually.

The competition in Yasuo’s skin pool is intense though. Truth Dragon, Dream Dragon, Inkshadow, the original Nightbringer. All strong picks. But Genesis Nightbringer Yasuo sits at the top for me because it combines the aggressive dark fantasy with enough visual clarity that you’re not losing track of your own abilities in a chaotic teamfight. Some skins look incredible in the splash and then you cant tell what’s happening when five champions are diving backline. Not the case here.

Might be overthinking it but the skin also just reads well from the enemy perspective. When I see a Genesis Nightbringer Yasuo lock in on the other team, there’s an immediate “this person plays Yasuo” energy. Whether thats worth Mythic Essence is personal, but for anyone who mains Yasuo and wants the definitive version of the Nightbringer fantasy, this is the one. Best Yasuo skin if you can only own one. The voice lines carry it, the VFX seal it, and the model stands apart from every other option in his catalog.
