Not gonna lie, the first time I saw Old God Warwick load into my game I had to double-take. Warwick already looks menacing in his base form but this skin turns him into something straight out of a Lovecraftian fever dream. Eldritch antlers, corrupted flesh, glowing sigils across the body. Locked this in immediately after it dropped in August 2021 and it hasnt left my rotation since.
What the skin actually changes
Old God Warwick is an Epic tier skin at 1350 RP, so you get the full package: new model, new VFX on every ability, and a new recall animation. Voice lines stay base, no changes there. The model itself is the star. Warwick’s body is wrapped in dark organic armor with these twisted bone-like growths erupting from his back and shoulders. The antler rack on his head gives him this ancient forest deity vibe that fits the Coven universe perfectly.
The Q lunge trails dark green energy behind it. Satisfying. His W blood hunt marks feel more ominous with the corrupted particle effects, and when you activate the attack speed buff the glow intensifies around his claws. E damage reduction has this shield of dark magic swirling around him, reads well in teamfights when youre trying to peel or dive the backline. The R is where it really shines though – the suppression leap leaves a trail of eldritch corruption on the ground. Been running this in Diamond ranked for months and the ult VFX genuinely feels like it catches people off guard more than base. Could be wrong here but I think the visual noise makes the hitbox seem wider than it is.
Recall animation has Warwick channeling some kind of dark ritual, summoning these tentacle-like roots from the ground. Clean loop, good pacing. Three things stood out when I first used it: the antler glow during recall, the ground corruption effect, and how smooth the transition back to fountain looks.
The Coven universe and Old God Warwick’s place in it
Released August 12, 2021. Late into season 11 if I remember right. Augusto Quirino and West Studio handled the artwork, and they cooked on this one. The splash captures Warwick mid-hunt through a corrupted forest, all dark purples and sickly greens. (Random aside: this splash has been my desktop background since release and nobody at work has asked about it yet.)
The Coven skinline splits into two factions – the Coven witches and the Old Gods they worship. Warwick lands in the Old God category alongside Malphite, Nocturne, and others. Kinda feels like Warwick was built for this theme. A predator from an ancient corrupted forest hunting through the Rift? The fantasy writes itself. The skinline has some of Riot’s strongest visual identity and Old God Warwick earns its spot.
9 chromas available for this one. Obsidian goes full shadow beast mode, easily the cleanest alternative. Dark Ritual is the event-exclusive chroma with that deep teal and crimson combo – if you grabbed it during the event, you know. Sapphire reads well in-game too, the blue tones against the dark model pop hard. Rest are solid but those three get my recommendation.
Should you buy Old God Warwick?
Real verdict: this is the Warwick skin if you can only own one. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. The VFX overhaul on every ability, the model quality, the thematic cohesion with the Coven line – it all clicks. Played maybe 200 games with this across two seasons and I keep coming back even after picking up other Warwick skins.
If you main Warwick jungle, this is a no-brainer. Still in the shop, permanent availability. The only competition is PROJECT Warwick which goes for a different aesthetic entirely. For the eldritch horror fantasy, Old God is S-tier. Maybe just my experience but last Tuesday around 2 AM I was grinding ranked and an enemy Warwick had this skin on too – first time I’d seen a mirror matchup with Old God in maybe 40 games. Speaks to how underrated it still is. Worth 1350 RP if you main Warwick, worth it even if you just play him occasionally in the jungle clear rotation. Standard pricing, above-average skin.
