First time I saw this skin in a loading screen I thought someone was trolling. Warwick wearing a manatee costume. Full manatee onesie. Not sure if it’s just me but this might be the most unhinged cosmetic Riot ever shipped, and thats saying something for a company that gave us Draven Draven.
What Urf the Manatee actually looks like in game
So here’s the deal. Warwick runs around the Rift dressed as Urf, the beloved manatee mascot that Riot has been memeing since season 1. The model is Warwick in a full blue-green manatee suit with Urf’s signature spatula. Played maybe 15 games with this thing back when a friend gifted it, and the reactions in all chat never got old.
For a Standard tier skin there’s not much changing mechanically. No new VFX on the Q or E. Voice lines stay base. The recall animation is different though, which is a nice touch for something this old. Been running this in normals specifically and the recall always gets a reaction from teammates. Little details like that carry a skin harder than people think.
Real talk though, the model itself holds up surprisingly well considering this dropped March 31, 2010. Pre-season 1 era. Most skins from that period look rough by today’s standards but the cartoony manatee suit ages better than realistic textures would have. The spatula weapon swap is clean. Simple change – huge impact on how the champion reads during ganking and teamfights.
The history behind this skin and why it costs 5000 RP
Bo ‘chenbowow’ Chen handled the artwork on the splash. Released as an April Fools joke, March 31, 2010. That price tag of 5000 RP was the joke itself, Riot making fun of overpriced cosmetics before overpriced cosmetics were even a thing in League. Kinda feels like they predicted their own future there.
The Urf the Manatee skinline is basically just this one concept. Urf became a whole thing in League culture. URF mode, Urf references everywhere, spatula items. This Warwick skin started all of it. Legacy vault skin now so you cant just walk into the shop and grab it. Need to either get lucky with Hextech crafting or wait for one of those rare vault openings.
(random aside: my buddy in Diamond has been trying to roll this from chests for three seasons straight and still doesnt have it)
Should you care about Urf the Manatee in 2026?
Straight talk: this is a collector’s piece. Nobody is locking in Urf the Manatee Warwick for comp advantages or cleaner ability reads. You pick this skin to make people laugh in champ select. Last Tuesday I had a Warwick jungle on my team running this and our bot lane mental went from tilted to vibing just off the loading screen splash alone.
5000 RP is absurd for what you get gameplay-wise. No new particles, no new VO, just the model and recall. But the price was always part of the joke and honestly the flex of owning it carries weight in the community. If you main Warwick and you want something that says “I’ve been here since the early days” this is the one. Seen maybe two of these in my ranked games all season. S-tier meme skin, bottom-tier value skin. Could be wrong here but I think that’s exactly what makes it special. The Warwick skin if you can only own one for the laughs.
