Lunar Guardian Warwick

First time I saw this skin load in during a ranked game, maybe season 8 or early 9, I thought it was a custom mod. Warwick decked out in full Lunar Revel armor with gold plating and red fur just hits completely different from his default werewolf look. Been running this as my main Warwick skin since around February 2018 when it dropped, and honestly its held up way better than I expected for an Epic tier release.

What Lunar Guardian actually changes on Warwick

The model rework here is solid. Warwick gets this armored lion-dog aesthetic that pulls from Chinese guardian lion statues. Gold and crimson everywhere. The fur texture has this deep red that reads well against the Rift, especially in river fights around dragon pit. Not gonna lie, the first thing I noticed was how clean the Q lunge looks with the new particles. The blood trail from his W passive gets this golden shimmer effect that makes tracking low-health targets feel more satisfying somehow.

E fear has updated VFX too. The damage reduction circle gets a Lunar Revel styled border with those traditional cloud patterns. Looks clean in teamfights when you’re peeling for your ADC or diving the backline. R is where it really shines though. The ult leap trail goes full golden with red accents, and the suppression lock-down has this burst of Lunar energy on impact. Played maybe 200 games with this skin and the R animation still feels impactful every time.

New recall animation too. Warwick does this guardian pose with fireworks going off. Short and sweet. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, but the voice filter wasnt really needed here since the visual package carries the skin on its own. (Random aside: my duo partner refuses to play with me when I use this skin because the golden particles “distract him” during ganking. Sure buddy, thats why you keep dying.)

The Lunar Revel line and release context

Lunar Guardian Warwick released February 8, 2018. Right in the middle of the Lunar Revel event that year. Esben Lash Rasmussen handled the artwork, and the splash is genuinely one of the better ones in Warwick’s catalog. The composition with the guardian lion motif and the festival lanterns in the background sells the fantasy hard.

The Lunar Revel skinline is one of Riot’s recurring themes that actually works. Not every champion fits it, but Warwick as a guardian lion? Natural fit. Kinda feels like the design team had this concept sitting around for a while before the rework gave them the model to execute it properly. Lunar Revel Warwick alongside Lunar Guardian Nasus that same patch made for a strong duo release.

5 chromas available for this one. Ruby keeps the red base but pushes it darker with more aggressive tones. Pearl flips the whole color scheme to white and ice blue, which honestly reads like a completely separate skin in my Diamond games. Turquoise is my go-to, the teal and gold combination looks cleaner than the base version in most lighting conditions on the Rift. Meteorite and Golden round out the set but I barely see anyone running those. Legacy vault skin, so you cant just grab it whenever. Gotta wait for the Lunar Revel event rotation or get lucky with Hextech crafting.

Is 1350 RP fair for Lunar Guardian Warwick?

Real verdict: for jungle mains who play Warwick regularly, this is a strong pick. 1350 RP is standard Epic pricing and Lunar Guardian earns it. New VFX on all abilities, new recall, solid model work. Could be wrong here but I think this might be the best thematic fit in Warwick’s entire skin lineup. Grey Warwick has the prestige factor and PROJECT has the tech fantasy, but neither nails the “powerful guardian beast” vibe like this one does.

The main downside is availability. Sits in the vault, so if you see it during a Lunar Revel shop rotation, dont sleep on it. Last Tuesday I was watching a friend’s stream and he rolled it from a chest. Lucky. Been maining Warwick with this skin through two full seasons of climbing and the VFX still feel premium. Not sure if it’s just me but the Q animation on this skin feels slightly smoother than base, probably placebo but I swear the lunge connects cleaner.

Skip it if you only play Warwick once a month. But for anyone who jungles with the wolf regularly, locks him in for comp or solo queue, this is the Warwick skin if you can only own one. S-tier cosmetic that punches above its price point. Worth 1350 if you main Warwick, full stop. The Pearl chroma specifically elevates it even further if you want something unique in your pre-6 ganks and late-game teamfights.
