Cosmic Paladin Sion

First time I saw Cosmic Paladin Sion in the shop I had to do a double take. Sion getting a Cosmic skin felt out of left field, like Riot woke up one morning and decided the undead war machine deserved a celestial glow-up. Been running this in Diamond for maybe 40 or 50 games now and honestly the skin grew on me faster than I expected. Not gonna lie, the splash alone sold me before I even loaded into a game.

What Cosmic Paladin Sion actually looks like in game

The model is clean. Sion looks like some kind of astral knight pulled straight out of a galaxy, covered in deep blues and purples with cosmic energy running through his armor plates. His axe got the full treatment too – swirling nebula patterns across the blade that catch your eye during lane phase. Solid work.

The VFX are where this skin earns the 1350 RP tag. His Q charge-up has these cosmic particles gathering around the impact zone, and when you release a fully charged Q in a teamfight the ground erupts with starfield energy. Looks fantastic. His W shield pulses with this deep purple glow, almost like a dying star wrapping around him. Could be wrong here but I think the shield pop VFX might be slightly more visible than base, which actually helps in chaotic fights.

E shove sends out this trail of cosmic debris instead of the usual roar effect. Small change – huge impact on readability. And the R, man. Sion ult with cosmic trails streaming behind him as he charges down mid lane is something else. Played a game last Wednesday where I ulted from tier 2 tower all the way into dragon pit and caught their Jinx and Thresh. The visual trail it leaves behind just makes the whole engage feel more dramatic.

The recall animation is new and fits the Cosmic fantasy. Sion channels some kind of celestial energy, kneeling like a paladin receiving power from the stars. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, which is expected at this price point. Base Sion voice is already iconic enough that it doesnt hurt the skin at all.

The Cosmic line and where Sion fits

Cosmic Paladin Sion dropped August 30, 2023. Late season 13. Sora Kim and West Studio handled the artwork, and they captured the scale of Sion perfectly in that splash. The Cosmic skinline is one of Riot’s more consistent themes. Champions like Lux, Ashe, and Hecarim already had Cosmic skins, so the line had a proven track record before Sion joined.

Sion as a “paladin” archetype works better than you’d think. Most Cosmic skins lean elegant or mystical, but the Paladin variant gives Sion this crusader-of-the-stars identity. Kinda feels like Riot wanted to show that Cosmic isnt just for pretty champions. (Random aside: this splash has been my desktop wallpaper since release and nobody at work has questioned it yet.)

8 chromas total for this one. Obsidian is my personal pick because the dark cosmic look with black and gold reads as a completely different skin. Amethyst leans harder into the purple and feels the most “canon” Cosmic if thats your vibe. Turquoise is interesting too, gives off more of an aquatic-cosmic hybrid look that I’ve seen a few Sion mains gravitate toward in my ranked games. The rest are fine but those three stand out.

Is Cosmic Paladin Sion worth 1350 RP?

Verdict time. This is a good Epic skin. Not the best Sion skin ever made but it fills a niche that his catalog was missing. If you’re tired of the darker themes like Mecha Zero or Worldbreaker, Cosmic Paladin gives Sion something brighter without making him look silly. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX across all abilities, solid recall, strong model work.

The skin sits in the shop permanently. Available any time. For Sion mains specifically, I think this slots into a comfortable second or third favorite depending on your taste. Been maining Sion with this equipped for most of my recent ranked grind, season 13 through early season 14, and the VFX never got old. The Q charge especially. Every time you land a full channel on two or three people in a teamfight the cosmic explosion just hits different.

Maybe just my experience but I dont see many of these in my games. Ran into one other Cosmic Paladin Sion in like 50 matches this season. If you want something relatively rare that still looks premium, this is a solid lock-in. Top pick for Sion mains who want that celestial aesthetic without dropping Legendary money.
