Warmonger Sion

First time I saw Warmonger Sion in a loading screen I thought someone was running a custom skin. Not gonna lie, the splash looked like something out of a different game entirely. Big armored brute with spikes everywhere, red glow, the whole deal. Locked it in for maybe 15 ranked games that same week just to see how it felt in Diamond lobbies. Solid skin for what it is.

What Warmonger Sion actually changes

This is a Standard tier skin so temper expectations. You’re getting a model swap and texture work, thats about it. No new VFX on Q or the R charge down lane. No fresh particles when you pop your W shield. Voice lines stay base, Scott McNeil doing his thing with the default VO which honestly still holds up after all these years.

The model itself though? Genuinely cool. Sion looks like he crawled out of some Noxian war pit. Heavy plate armor, spiked shoulders, the whole silhouette reads differently from base. The red accents on the armor catch your eye in teamfights which is nice when you’re trying to be the frontline engage threat. Played a game last Thursday where I ulted from mid into bot lane and my ADC said the skin made the R look scarier. Placebo? Probably. Still counts.

Could be wrong here but I think the auto attack animations feel slightly different with this model. They dont, I checked, but something about the heavier armor makes the wind-up on his Q look more impactful. Brain playing tricks. The axe design is clean though, bigger and nastier than default.

Legacy line and release context

Warmonger Sion dropped July 18, 2011. Pre-rework Sion era. Wild to think about. The Legacy skinline tag on this one is interesting because it basically just means “old school Riot design philosophy” before they had unified thematic lines.

No chromas available. 975 RP price point which for 2011 was actually premium territory. Shop has it if you want to grab it. (Random aside: this is one of maybe four Sion skins I keep in rotation and it sees play more than you’d expect.)

The skin survived the full Sion rework from season 4 or 5 I think, dont remember exactly. They rebuilt the model from scratch to fit the new kit and honestly it translated well. The warmonger aesthetic fits reworked Sion better than old Sion. Undead juggernaut in heavy Noxian plate armor just makes sense with the Q charge-up and the R unstoppable charge.

Should you pick up Warmonger Sion?

Real verdict: if you main Sion and you’re building the collection, 975 RP feels fair for what you get. The model work carries this skin hard. No new particles or VO refresh but the visual identity in lane is distinct enough that it doesnt feel like a recolor.

Been maining Sion with this skin on and off since season 10. It competes with Mecha Zero and Blackfrost for my go-to pick depending on mood. Warmonger Sion is the “I want to look like a war machine without the mecha gimmick” option. Simple change – huge impact on how the champion reads in game. For Sion one-tricks who want every skin in the drawer, skip the hesitation. For everyone else climbing ranked, the base skin works fine but this one has character. Top pick for Sion mains who like the Noxus fantasy over the sci-fi stuff.
