Star Guardian Soraka

First time I saw Star Guardian Soraka load in, season 7 ranked, I thought it was a Lulu skin for about two seconds. The color palette threw me off. Then the Q hit the ground and I realized this was something else entirely. Been running this as my main Soraka skin since it dropped September 6, 2017, and I keep coming back to it even with newer options sitting in my collection.

What Star Guardian Soraka actually changes

For an Epic tier skin at 1350 RP, the VFX work here is solid. Soraka’s Q lands with this starlight burst effect that reads clean against the Rift. Not gonna lie, it looks better in darker areas of the map, around dragon pit or in the jungle specifically. The heal on W has this sparkle trail connecting you to your ADC that I think actually helps me track the ability better than base. Might be overthinking it but the visual feedback feels tighter.

E is where it gets interesting. The zone drops with little star particles scattered inside, and the silence into root transition has a distinct shimmer. In teamfights when you’re trying to peel for your backline, the E boundary is easier to read than default Soraka. Practical stuff.

R keeps the global heal fantasy but wraps it in the Star Guardian aesthetic. Stars rain down. Clean animation. The recall is the highlight though, Soraka floats up with her familiar and theres this whole magical girl transformation sequence. Took maybe 23 games before I stopped watching the full recall every time I backed. (Random aside: my duo partner started banning Soraka just so I’d stop showing off the recall in norms.)

Voice lines stay base. No new VO, which is standard for 1350 RP. The model swap itself puts Soraka in the Star Guardian uniform with the white and green color scheme, staff redesigned to match the magical girl theme. Hair goes full anime. Good look.

The Star Guardian Season 2 lineup and context

Star Guardian Season 2 dropped September 2017, late into that year. Soraka fit the line naturally. The whole magical girl premise works for an enchanter support, maybe better than any other champion in the roster honestly. Real talk though, she was competing with Ahri, Syndra, and Miss Fortune in the same wave, and I think Soraka’s skin got overlooked because of it.

Splash art credit goes to a stacked team: Esben Lash Rasmussen, Alex ‘alexplank’ Flores, Alvin Lee, Pan Chengwei, and Jean ‘Curing’ Go. Five artists on one splash. They cooked. The composition captures the protective healer vibe perfectly, Soraka front and center with the familiar floating nearby.

No chromas on this one. Zero. Kinda surprising given how many Star Guardian skins got chroma treatment later, but Star Guardian Soraka shipped without them and never received any. Could be wrong here but I feel like Riot missed an opportunity, a dark purple or midnight blue variant would have been an easy sell to Soraka mains.

Where Star Guardian Soraka sits in the Soraka skin lineup

Soraka has a deep skin pool at this point. Celestine was the go-to for years before this dropped. Dawnbringer exists. Spirit Blossom exists. But Star Guardian Soraka holds up surprisingly well for a 2017 release. The VFX are distinct enough, the theme is strong, and the recall alone carries value.

Been spamming this in Diamond during enchanter metas and it never feels dated. Last Tuesday around 2 AM I locked in Soraka support into a Draven lane, ran the Star Guardian skin, and the Draven on my team typed “nice skin” in champ select. Small thing. But it tells you the skin still reads well even years later.

If you’re a Soraka one-trick climbing ranked, you probably already own this. If you dont, its the best entry point before spending up on Dawnbringer or Spirit Blossom. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New particles on every ability, a memorable recall, clean model. Standard pricing, above-average skin.

Should you buy it?

Straight talk: Star Guardian Soraka is a strong Epic skin that earns its 1350 RP. The Star Guardian Season 2 aesthetic aged better than most 2017 releases. VFX hold up in lane and in teamfights. The recall is still one of Soraka’s best. Worth it if you main Soraka.

Skip it only if you already have Dawnbringer or Spirit Blossom and need to save RP. For everyone else, especially support mains who play Soraka in their ranked rotation, this is a safe buy. Top pick for Soraka mains who want the magical girl fantasy without dropping Legendary money. Simple change – huge impact on how she feels in game.
