First time I saw Nightbringer Soraka in the loading screen I genuinely thought Riot dropped a new champion. Not even joking. The base Soraka silhouette is so far removed from what this skin does that it took me a second to process. Been maining Soraka with this skin since season 10 and the novelty still hasnt worn off. Dark corrupted healer fantasy done right.

What Nightbringer Soraka actually brings to the table

This is a full Legendary. New voice lines, new VFX on every ability, new recall, the whole package. Lisa Lindsley voices Nightbringer Soraka and she nailed the delivery. The tone shifts from the gentle base Soraka to something menacing and conflicted. Not gonna lie, the voice lines carry this skin harder than the visuals in some spots. There’s a darkness in the VO that makes you forget you’re playing a support.

Q feels completely different. The starfall animation trades the golden light for this deep crimson and black energy that splashes on impact. Visually reads clean against the Rift, which matters more than people think. Had a ranked game last Tuesday where I was landing Qs through fog of war and the dark particles actually made it easier to track the hitbox. Could be wrong here but the projectile feels slightly more visible than base.

W is where it gets interesting. The heal tether between you and your ADC has this corrupted energy flow, red and purple wisps instead of the usual green. Looks sick in teamfights when you’re peeling for your backline and the tether is stretching across three enemies. E drops a field of dark energy. The silence zone reads as threatening now, which is kind of fitting. Enemy Katarina steps into it and you can see the moment they realize they messed up.

R is the showpiece. Global heal. Instead of the warm starlight cascade, you get this wave of dark celestial energy washing over the map. Played maybe 200 games with this skin and that ult animation still hits. The screen darkens slightly for a split second before the heal lands. Massive visual impact in late-game teamfights when your team is low and you pop R from bot lane while they’re fighting at Baron.

Recall animation deserves a mention. She channels this dark energy orb, the wings spread out. Clean. (Random aside: I’ve used the recall cancel to bait engages in Diamond more times than I should admit.)

The Nightbringer and Dawnbringer universe

Released December 12, 2019. Late into season 9, right before preseason chaos. Jeremy ‘Jermu’ Anninos on the splash, they cooked. The art captures this fallen angel vibe perfectly. Wings, dark energy, the whole composition tells you this isn’t your standard enchanter skin.

The Nightbringer and Dawnbringer skinline is one of Riot’s more ambitious thematic sets. Soraka fits naturally into the duality concept. You’ve got Dawnbringer Soraka on the other side if you want the light version, but real talk though, the dark version is the better execution. The contrast between a healer champion and a corrupted aesthetic creates something that feels unique in the roster. Most Nightbringer skins go on champions that are already edgy. Putting it on Soraka was the interesting call.

No chromas for this one. Zero. Which I think is fine for a Legendary at this price point. The color palette is locked into the dark red and black scheme and adding chromas would dilute the identity. Some Legendaries work better as a single definitive version.

Shop has it. 1820 RP. Permanent availability, so no rush if you’re on the fence.

How it feels in ranked

Spammed this in Diamond for three straight months when it first dropped. Season 9 into season 10 transition. The skin genuinely changed how I felt playing Soraka. Base Soraka feels passive. Nightbringer Soraka feels like you’re playing an AP mid laner who happens to heal. The aggressive VO lines encourage you to play forward, land Qs, trade in lane. Might be overthinking it but skin psychology is real.

The auto attack animation is smoother than base. Soraka mains know the pain of clunky autos when you’re trying to cs under tower or poke in lane. This skin cleans that up. Not a gameplay advantage obviously, but the feel matters when you’re grinding ranked at 2 AM and every auto cancel tilts you.

One thing I noticed around season 12 or 13 – the skin’s VFX hold up well compared to newer releases. Some older Legendaries look dated next to recent Epic skins but Nightbringer Soraka still competes visually. The particle work was ahead of its time. Seen maybe 5 of these in my games all season which is surprising given how good it is. Most Soraka players default to Star Guardian or Spirit Blossom.

Should you buy it?

Verdict time. 1820 RP well spent for mains. Full stop. If you play Soraka even semi-regularly this is the skin. New VO from Lisa Lindsley gives the champion a completely different personality. Full VFX overhaul on Q, W, E, R. New recall. The Nightbringer and Dawnbringer thematic fits the champion better than it has any right to.

If you’re not a Soraka player, its harder to justify the Legendary price. But if you’re an enchanter main who rotates between Soraka, Janna, Lulu – this is the skin that makes you lock in Soraka over the others. The only competition in the Soraka skin lineup is Star Guardian and Celestine, and neither comes close to the production value here. Arguably the best Soraka skin. The dark healer fantasy executed at the highest level Riot offers for a support champion. Worth every RP if you main her, and honestly a solid pickup even if she’s your secondary. Skip it only if you never touch Soraka in ranked.
