First game I played with Pool Party Jarvan IV, my duo asked why I was flag-and-dragging people with a pool noodle. Thats a fair question honestly. Riot took one of the most militaristic champions on the Rift and handed him swim trunks and a floatie lance. Played maybe 40 games with it that first week in Diamond and the novelty still hasnt worn off for me.
What Pool Party Jarvan IV actually changes
The model swap is the big draw here. Jarvan IV loses the full plate armor for board shorts, sandals, and a lifeguard whistle around his neck. His lance is replaced with a giant pool noodle, which sounds goofy because it is. The flag on his E is a beach umbrella. Every time you plant it in a teamfight and Q combo into five people, there’s a beach umbrella stuck in the ground where a Demacian standard used to be. Ridiculous in the best way.
VFX got a full rework for this tier. His Q leaves a trail of water splashing forward. W shield pops with a ring of water around him. The E drops the umbrella with sand particles kicking up on impact. Not gonna lie, the R is the highlight. Cataclysm slams down and creates this circular splash zone, water erupting on all sides. Trapped their Jinx in it last Tuesday around 2 AM in a ranked game and the water wall looked clean against the river backdrop specifically.
Recall animation has Jarvan IV lounging in a kiddie pool, sipping a drink. Standard stuff for Pool Party skins but it fits. He looks relaxed for once instead of screaming about Demacia. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, which is expected at 1350 RP. Kyle Hebert’s original performance carries through fine.
One thing I noticed after grinding ranked with this skin for a couple weeks: the Q animation feels slightly different visually because of the noodle shape. Could be wrong here but the thinner profile of the pool noodle versus the standard lance made me misjudge the hitbox width early on. Took about ten games to recalibrate. Not a real gameplay issue, just perception.
The Pool Party line and where J4 fits
Pool Party dropped July 2, 2020. Middle of summer, season 10. West Studio handled the splash and they captured the vibe perfectly. Jarvan IV standing on a beach with the umbrella-flag planted behind him, waves crashing. Classic Pool Party energy.
The Pool Party skinline is one of Riot’s longest running themes. Been around since like season 3 I think or maybe 4 dont remember exactly. Jarvan IV joins a massive roster in Pool Party: Renekton, Lee Sin, Leona, Fiora, the list keeps going. He fits naturally because the flag-and-drag combo translates well to beach props. Some champions feel forced in Pool Party but J4 works.
8 chromas total for Pool Party Jarvan IV. Obsidian is my personal pick, the dark shorts and darker noodle give it an edge that the base bright colors lack. Amethyst hits a nice purple tone that reads well in lane. Pearl goes full white and clean but I’ve seen maybe 3 people use it in my games all season. (Random aside: the Ruby chroma with the red trunks makes him look like a Baywatch extra and I respect that energy.)
This Epic skin sits at 1350 RP. Shop has it, permanent availability, grab it whenever. For the price point you’re getting new model, new VFX on all abilities, new recall. Standard Epic package but well executed.
Who should lock in Pool Party Jarvan IV
Real verdict: Pool Party Jarvan IV is a solid mid-tier J4 skin. Not the flashiest option he has. Dark Star and Hextech both compete at similar or higher price points with more dramatic themes. But if you want something lighthearted for normals or you’re the type who plays ranked with joke skins to tilt the enemy jungler, this delivers.
Been maining Jarvan IV with this skin on and off since it dropped and I keep coming back to it during summer months specifically. Kinda feels like it fits the seasonal vibe better than running it in December. The water VFX on Cataclysm alone make it worth considering over base or the cheaper options.
For J4 one-tricks who already own Dark Star or Hextech, Pool Party Jarvan IV is a rotation piece. Good variety pick. For newer Jarvan IV players looking for their first skin purchase, 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. The combo of beach umbrella E into pool noodle Q into water prison R is genuinely fun and the 8 chromas give you options to personalize. Obsidian or Amethyst, pick one, skip the rest unless you’re a collector.
Maybe just my experience but this skin gets compliments in lobby more than his serious skins do. People notice the pool noodle. Worth 1350 RP if you main Jarvan IV and want something that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Skip it if you only play him as a pocket pick for comp-dependent jungle drafts, you wont get enough games to justify it.
