Meowrick

First time I saw Meowrick load into my game I thought someone was trolling. A Yorick main in Diamond running around with a cat lady skin, summoning little kittens instead of ghouls. Played against it in a top lane matchup last March and honestly could not focus on the lane because the Maiden was a giant ghost cat. Distracted me enough that I lost prio for two waves straight.

The cat ghouls change everything

So here’s what Meowrick actually does to Yorick’s kit. The ghouls from Q are tiny cats now. Not just reskinned, they have distinct little cat animations and they swarm targets the way actual cats swarm a laser pointer. Chaotic energy. The Maiden replacement is the real showpiece though. Giant spectral cat floating behind you. In teamfights when you ult and she starts chasing someone down the backline, its genuinely unsettling in the best way.

New VFX across the board. The W cage? Cat scratches forming the walls. Feels like you’re trapping people in a cat carrier. Trapped their Jinx in it near dragon pit last Tuesday around 2 AM and my duo lost it laughing. The E toss marks targets with a little cat symbol. Not sure if it’s just me but the E animation feels slightly snappier on this skin compared to base, probably just placebo though.

Recall animation is peak. Yorick sits down and cats just pile onto him. Pure cat dad energy. No new voice lines, kept the base VO, which makes sense for an Epic tier skin at 1350 RP. The contrast between Yorick’s grim voice and the cute cat visuals actually works better than new lines would. Kinda feels like Riot knew the comedy writes itself.

Cats Versus Dogs and the splash

Meowrick dropped March 27, 2019. Part of the Cats Versus Dogs skinline, which is one of Riot’s more creative theme releases. The whole event was a fun break from the serious skinlines. Choe HeonHwa nailed the splash art, Yorick surrounded by cats with that stoic expression while chaos happens around him.

7 chromas total. Obsidian turns the cats dark and moody, which honestly reads cleaner in game than the base pastel vibe. Rainbow is the meme pick, goes full pride colors on everything including the cats. Pearl gives it a cleaner white aesthetic that I think pairs well with the ghost cat Maiden.

The Cats Versus Dogs line has some bangers. Corgi Corki, Pretty Kitty Rengar. But Meowrick stands out because Yorick’s kit translates so perfectly to the theme. A champion who summons minions and has a spectral companion? Replace those with cats and you’ve got comedy gold. Season 9 I think, maybe early season 10 dont remember exactly, but that whole patch cycle was solid for fun skins.

How it plays in ranked

Been running this in Diamond for a while now and the gameplay feel is surprisingly good for a joke skin. The cat ghouls are easy to track visually, maybe even easier than base Yorick ghouls because the bright colors pop against the Rift. Splitpushing with Meowrick hits different when you’re sending a cat army down a lane.

Real talk though, the skin has a psychological edge. People underestimate the Meowrick player. They see the cats and think you’re not serious. Then you land W, pop E, and four cats plus the Maiden ghost cat run them down. Seen maybe 5 Meowrick players in my games all season besides myself. It’s rare enough that people forget what Yorick even does, let alone the cat version.

The one thing that bugs me is the sound design could be better. Could be wrong here but I feel like they missed an opportunity with cat sounds on the ghoul spawns. The VFX carry it, the audio is just adequate. Minor complaint for what is overall a top tier joke skin.

Should you buy Meowrick?

Verdict time. Best Yorick skin if you want personality. Arclight Yorick is the “serious” pick, Pentakill has the music theme going, but Meowrick is the one that makes both you and your opponents smile. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX, new recall, complete visual overhaul of the summons.

If you main Yorick this is a must-own. Played maybe 200 games with it and keep coming back over the other options. The chromas add replay value too, Obsidian for the tryhard games and Rainbow when you’re feeling it. Skip it only if you genuinely hate fun skins and want Yorick to stay brooding and dark. For everyone else who plays the Shepherd of Souls in ranked, this is the skin. Simple change – huge impact on how the champion feels to play.
