Cats Versus Dogs is one of those skinlines where Riot just said "forget lore, forget dark fantasy, lets make people smile" and honestly it works. Been playing League since season 4 and I remember when Meowkai dropped and everyone in my ranked games was spamming the laugh emote in lane. The whole concept is simple: half the roster gets turned into cats, the other half into dogs, and the VFX lean hard into the cute factor. Not sure if it's just me but this line has some of the most personality per RP spent in the entire game. 13 skins deep now across 11 champions, and the quality has only gone up since 2016.

What Makes the Cats Versus Dogs Line Stand Out

The visual identity here is obvious from the splash art alone. Bright pastels, exaggerated animal features, yarn balls and squeaky toys replacing dark magic and cosmic energy. Every skin in the line commits fully to the bit. No half-measures. Meowkai's saplings are literal kittens. Corgi Corki rides a corgi instead of his helicopter thing. Fuzz Fizz throws a dog toy for his ult. The particle work across the whole line keeps this cartoonish energy that reads cleanly on the Rift without being distracting in teamfights.

What ties these skins together visually is the color saturation. Riot cranked the warmth on every texture. Pinks, oranges, soft blues. Compare that to something like Dark Star where everything bleeds purple and black. Cats Versus Dogs sits on the opposite end of the mood spectrum and I think thats partly why people gravitate toward it. You lock in Pretty Kitty Rengar in a Diamond lobby and your team's mental just improves. Seen it happen.

Real talk though, the line splits neatly into two camps and the rivalry element adds flavor. Cat skins lean sleek and mischievous. Dog skins lean goofy and loyal. The splashes play into this with little easter eggs: a chewed shoe here, a knocked-over vase there. Small details that reward you for actually zooming in. Cats Versus Dogs has an actual internal tension. Cat team versus dog team. There's a narrative thread even if it's silly. Kinda feels like Riot took the internet's oldest debate and turned it into cosmetics. Smart move for engagement honestly.

Best Cats Versus Dogs Skins

Cat-in-the-Box Shaco is the crown jewel. Full stop. The only Legendary in the line at 1820 RP and it earns every point. Shaco's kit is already built for trickster energy and wrapping him in a cardboard box with cat ears? Chef's kiss. The clone spawns as a slightly different cat box. His Q poof has confetti particles. The backstab animation has him scratching like an actual cat. Been spamming this in ranked since it dropped and the amount of tilt it generates in the enemy jungle is unreal. Played against a Kayn one-trick last week who all-chatted "I hate that skin" after I killed him at his own raptors.

Prestige Fuzz Fizz deserves the second spot. Both versions honestly. The original Mythic version has this golden retriever energy with premium textures and the 2022 refresh cleaned up some of the model work. Fizz already has the playful assassin fantasy and slapping a puppy costume on him just amplifies it. His shark ult becomes a giant dog bursting from the ground. Terrifying and adorable at the same time.

Corgi Corki is the sleeper pick that I think most people underrate. Epic tier, 1350 RP, but the corgi mount replacement changes how the champion feels entirely. The package becomes a stampede of corgis. Could be wrong here but I think this is one of the best value Epics in the game pound for pound. The recall animation alone where the corgi rolls over for belly rubs. Come on.

Meowkai holds a special place because it was basically the pioneer. Released back in 2016, it proved the concept worked. The sapling kittens are iconic at this point. Every Maokai main I know defaults to this skin. Not the best model by 2025 standards but the charm carries it hard.

Woof and Lamb Kindred is the dark horse (dark dog?) of the line. Kindred's thematic duality maps perfectly onto the cats versus dogs split. Wolf becomes an actual wolf-dog hybrid and Lamb gets cat elements. The W zone has paw prints. Might be overthinking it but I think this is one of the more clever thematic marriages Riot has done with the skinline.

The Champion Roster

11 champions across 13 skins. Decent spread. The line started with Maokai and has grown steadily, picking up new additions through 2025. What I appreciate is that Riot hasn't just thrown every champion in here. The picks feel intentional.

Rengar as Pretty Kitty Rengar is the obvious slam dunk. He's literally a cat champion. Making him a housecat in a onesie is the kind of self-aware humor that hits. Yuumi getting Shiba Yuumi is the same energy but reversed: a cat champion getting a dog skin. Fair warning, the Yuumi mains were split on this one when it dropped. Some loved the irony, some wanted another cat skin for their cat champion. I think the dog angle was the right call.

Nidalee as Kittalee works because of the cougar form. Cat champion, cat skin, the transformation sequences get extra cute VFX. Yorick as Meowrick is underrated. His ghouls become kittens and the maiden becomes a big spectral cat. Sejuani riding a pug instead of Bristle is exactly the kind of absurdity this line needs.

Kled getting Kibble-Head Kled makes sense thematically. He already rides Skaarl so swapping that mount for a dog fits the template Corki established. Honestly not gonna lie, the roster could use a dedicated ADC. Maybe a Cat-themed Jinx or a Dog-themed Tristana. Some bot lane representation would round things out for people who want to run full Cats Versus Dogs comps in norms. (Sidebar: I tried running a full cat comp in flex queue last season and we won at 22 minutes, the enemy team was too busy typing in all chat to play.)

Tier and Price Breakdown

The line skews Epic heavy. 10 out of 13 skins sit at 1350 RP which is standard for modern releases. One Legendary in Cat-in-the-Box Shaco at 1820 RP and two Mythic-tier Prestige versions of Fuzz Fizz. No budget options below 1350.

This means the price floor is 1350 and the ceiling is 1820 for non-Prestige. Reasonable range. The Epics in this line punch above their weight because the theme does a lot of heavy lifting. You dont need new voice lines or completely reworked animations when the visual concept is this strong. A corgi mount. Cat saplings. Dog shark. The theme sells itself at the Epic price point.

The Legendary Shaco skin justifies its price with the full new VO and animation set. Shaco talks in cat puns and his interactions with other Cats Versus Dogs skins have unique lines. If you're a Shaco main climbing in ranked this season, this is the skin. The two Prestige Fizz skins are Mythic tier which means loot or event tokens, not direct purchase. Typical Riot scarcity model. The 2022 version cleaned up the textures from the original so if you're rolling for one specifically, aim for that version.

Overall the line doesn't have the tier diversity of something like Star Guardian which spans from 1350 to Ultimate. But what's here is consistent quality. No duds. Every skin delivers on the premise which is more than I can say for some of the bigger skinlines that have clear filler entries.
