Not gonna lie, when Riot announced a Prestige version of Fuzz Fizz I thought it was a joke. A golden puppy Fizz. Thats the pitch. But after locking it in for a solid stretch of ranked games back in early season 9, the skin grew on me in ways I did not expect. The golden palette works better in motion than it has any right to.

Golden retriever energy on the Rift

So the base Fuzz Fizz already turns Fizz into a puppy. Prestige Fuzz Fizz takes that concept and dips the whole thing in white and gold. The fur texture shifts from the scruffy brown dog look to something cleaner, almost regal. Think show dog versus park dog. Big difference in how it reads during lane phase.

The VFX got the Prestige treatment too. Fizz’s Q dash leaves a trail of golden sparkles that lingers for maybe half a second. Subtle but noticeable. His W empowered auto has this warm amber glow around the trident (which is now a golden chew toy, still cracks me up). E is where it gets good. Playful/Trickster sends up a splash of gold particles on both the hop and the landing. In a teamfight with four or five abilities going off at once you can still track your E clearly because of that distinct gold color. Actually helpful for gameplay, not just cosmetic.

The recall animation keeps the playful dog theme. Fizz rolls around with his toy, but the golden confetti and sparkle effects make it feel more celebratory. Like your puppy just won Best in Show. Been spamming the recall after kills in Diamond and honestly it hits different with the Prestige version. (Random aside: my duo partner calls this skin “the trophy dog” and refuses to play bot lane with me when I use it because he says it’s distracting.)

Voice lines stay base. No new VO which is expected for a Mythic Prestige skin from 2019. Riot wasnt doing voice work for these early Prestige editions. The fish sounds and playful Fizz quotes still come through, they just feel slightly mismatched against the golden visuals. Minor gripe.

The Cats Versus Dogs event and how this skin dropped

Prestige Fuzz Fizz released March 27, 2019. Right in the middle of the Cats Versus Dogs event, which was one of Riot’s more lighthearted VS events. The whole skinline split champions into cat skins and dog skins. Fizz landed on the dog side with Fuzz Fizz as the base, and this Prestige variant as the grind reward.

Rudy Siswanto handled the artwork. Credit where it’s due, the splash captures this confident golden puppy energy that translates well into the loading screen. The composition puts Fizz front and center with that chew toy trident raised, gold particles swirling around. Clean work.

Back in 2019 Prestige skins worked on an event token system. You had to grind the pass missions to unlock it. Could be wrong here but I think it was around 2000 tokens at the time. These days the skin sits in the Mythic shop rotation. Available now if you have the Mythic Essence for it. No chromas exist for this one, which makes sense given the Prestige already IS the color variant of base Fuzz Fizz.

The Cats Versus Dogs line doesn’t get talked about much anymore. Feels like Riot treated it as a one-off event theme rather than a recurring skinline. Yorick got Meowrick way earlier, and the VS event added Pretty Kitty Rengar and Fuzz Fizz among others. The Cats Versus Dogs concept had legs but Riot moved on to bigger themes. Season 9 was wild for events honestly.

How it plays in actual games

Took this into ranked for maybe 30 games last month around 1 AM on a Tuesday night grinding through Diamond. The golden VFX on E are genuinely easier to track than base Fizz particles. Could be coping but I think the distinct color helps with spacing your Playful/Trickster timing. You see the gold splash on landing and it gives this instant visual confirmation of your hitbox.

Fizz mains and one-tricks will notice the auto attack animations feel identical to base Fuzz Fizz. No changes there. The Q and R are where the Prestige VFX shine most. Ult shark comes up gold, obviously, and in a gank scenario where you’re throwing R from fog of war the golden chomper reads as more threatening somehow. Might be overthinking it but my targets seem to flash earlier when they see the gold shark coming. Placebo? Maybe. Still counts.

One thing that bugs me: the golden particles can blend into certain map areas. River especially. The warm gold tones on the sandy river terrain make your E particles less visible than on the darker lane areas. Not a dealbreaker, just something I noticed after spamming Fizz in mid lane and roaming bot through river around dragon pit. Specifically around pre-6 trades the skin looks best because you’re staying in lane where the contrast is sharp.

The honest take

Prestige Fuzz Fizz is a solid Mythic skin that ages better than most 2019 Prestige editions. The golden palette on a puppy champion is ridiculous in the best way. No new voice lines hold it back from being truly premium, and the lack of chromas means what you see is what you get. Simple deal.

If you main Fizz and have Mythic Essence sitting around, this is a strong pickup. Seen maybe five of these in my games all season so the rarity factor is real. Most Fizz players run Fisherman or Little Devil, so pulling up with the golden retriever skin in champ select gets reactions. S-tier Fizz cosmetic for collectors. Skip it if you only play Fizz occasionally though, the Mythic Essence is better spent elsewhere unless you’re committed to the fish. Real talk though, for dedicated Fizz one-tricks this belongs in the collection.
