First game I played with Rain Shepherd Fizz was a late night ranked session, maybe 1 AM on a Wednesday. Locked it in without checking the spotlight because I trust Riot with Fizz skins at this point. The loading screen hit and I just sat there for a second. Fizz in a pastoral rain outfit with a little shepherd’s crook instead of his trident. Wasnt expecting that energy from a champion who usually looks like he crawled out of the ocean five minutes ago. The whole vibe is softer, greener, and honestly kind of peaceful for a champ whose entire kit is about making people rage quit.
How Rain Shepherd Fizz actually plays
The VFX carry this skin hard. Q dash leaves a trail of rain droplets that scatter on impact. Clean effect, reads well in lane and doesnt clutter teamfights. W proc has this subtle splash ripple around the target. Not gonna lie, the E is where it gets good. Playful/Trickster drops Fizz onto what looks like a rain cloud, and the landing zone has this spreading puddle animation with little ripple rings. Seen it maybe 40 times now and it still looks satisfying when you dodge a Lux ult with it.
R throws out a rain-themed shark indicator. The ground effect before the shark pops is this stormy puddle that expands, and the shark itself has a water spirit design. Bigger ult hits feel impactful. The recall animation is new too. Fizz sits down, plays with some rain spirits or cloud creatures, the whole thing has a Ghibli feel to it. (Random aside: my duo partner called it “the Totoro skin” and honestly thats not wrong.)
Voice lines stay base. No VO refresh. Standard for a 1350 RP Epic skin so I’m not complaining. The sound design on abilities does enough to make it feel distinct from base Fizz.
The Rain Shepherd line and release context
Rain Shepherd Fizz dropped June 26, 2024. Mid-season 14. The Rain Shepherd skinline is one of Riot’s smaller thematic drops. Fizz, Gwen, and Milio all got skins in the set. Kinda feels like Riot wanted a chill nature-themed line without going full Elderwood again. The aesthetic is more whimsical, less ancient forest.
Rudy Siswanto nailed the splash. The composition puts Fizz in this misty green field with rain falling around him, shepherd’s crook in hand, looking way more serene than any Fizz player has ever been in their life. Seriously, Fizz mains are some of the most chaotic people on the Rift and here he is looking like a pastoral painting.
8 chromas total. Amethyst is my go-to because the purple tones against the green rain effects create this contrast that reads really well on Summoner’s Rift. Meteorite gives it a darker earthy vibe, almost like an autumn rain version. Ruby exists for the Ruby collectors out there but it clashes with the rain theme in my opinion. Could be wrong here but I think most of the chromas are solid picks except Citrine which runs a bit too warm for the skin’s mood.
Still in the shop. 1350 RP. Permanent availability so no rush.
Should you pick up Rain Shepherd Fizz?
Real verdict: this is a mid-to-upper tier Fizz skin. Not his best. Fisherman Fizz still has the nostalgia factor and Little Devil Fizz goes harder on the personality front. But Rain Shepherd Fizz fills a niche none of his other skins touch. It’s the calm one. The pretty one.
Been running this in Diamond for a few months now and the VFX clarity is genuinely good. In bot lane specifically when I’m playing Fizz support (don’t judge me, it works in certain comps against squishy backlines), the ability effects are readable without being distracting. The E cloud is easy to track for both you and your lane partner. That matters more than people think when you’re trying to coordinate a dive pre-6.
If you one-trick Fizz you probably already own it. If you’re picking up Fizz as a pocket assassin for mid lane and want something that looks clean without being over the top, 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. The skin doesnt reinvent the champion but it gives him a fresh identity that none of his 13 other skins come close to. Skip it if you already have Little Devil or Fuzz Fizz and only play him occasionally. Worth it if Fizz is in your regular ranked rotation and you want something that stands out in the loading screen. Season 14 had some questionable skin drops but this one landed well. Good skin. Not legendary tier obviously, but a competent Epic that earns its price tag.
