Dark Star Yorick

First game I loaded into with Dark Star Yorick was around midnight on a Friday, maybe two weeks after it dropped in October 2024. Picked him into a Darius top lane and honestly the skin just hit different from the loading screen alone. Yorick has always been that champion where half the player base forgets he exists until he takes two inhibs at 25 minutes, and Riot finally gave him a skin that matches the cosmic horror energy he deserves. Not gonna lie, I stared at the splash for a solid minute before locking in.

What Dark Star Yorick actually brings to the table

The VFX rework on this skin carries hard. Yorick’s Q feels weightier with the dark matter particles swirling around the shovel on proc. The ghouls from his passive got the full Dark Star treatment, these little void-touched minions trailing purple and black energy as they chase down the backline. Huge visual upgrade over base Yorick where the ghouls look like they crawled out of a PS2 cutscene.

W is where it gets interesting. The wall of souls now looks like a collapsing star barrier. Trapped their Jungler inside it during a dragon fight last week and the visual cage effect actually made it easier to track. Could be wrong here but I think the particles read cleaner than base, which matters when youre trying to peel in a chaotic teamfight.

E marks enemies with this dark gravitational pull visual. Clean. The Maiden from his ult walks around with cosmic tendrils flowing behind her, and the recall animation is new too. Yorick kneels before some collapsing star entity. Standard voice lines though, no VO refresh, which is expected at this price point.

One thing I noticed after maybe 30 games: the auto attack animations feel slightly smoother with the skin on. Placebo? Probably. But splitpushing with this skin equipped just feels right. (Random aside: my duo partner who mains ADC asked me why my “zombie guy” looked so cool suddenly, and thats how I knew the skin was doing its job.)

The Dark Star line and release context

Dark Star Yorick released October 23, 2024. Late into season 14. Nathaniel Himawan and West Studio handled the artwork, and they captured the gravitational horror vibe perfectly.

The Dark Star skinline is one of Riot’s most consistent themes. Thresh, Jhin, Mordekaiser, Jarvan IV. Big roster. Yorick fits naturally because his whole kit revolves around summoning and death, which maps onto the cosmic destruction fantasy. Been maining Yorick with this skin since it dropped and I keep coming back to it over Spirit Blossom honestly.

9 chromas total. Obsidian is my go-to, the murdered-out black and grey reads so clean against the Rift that it barely looks like the same skin. Quasar has this red-to-purple gradient that gives off corrupted energy, real menacing in lane. Pearl exists for the people who want their cosmic horror in pastel I guess. Not my style but I’ve seen maybe 3 of those in my games all season.

Is Dark Star Yorick worth 1350 RP?

Real verdict: this is a strong Epic skin. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX across the full kit, solid recall, the ghoul redesign alone justifies the price for Yorick mains. The Maiden visual upgrade is the real selling point for me. Kinda feels like Riot actually cared about making this one good instead of phoning it in.

If you play Yorick in ranked at all, this or Spirit Blossom are your two real options. Meowrick is fun but goofy. Pentakill skins are dated. Resistance is whatever. Dark Star Yorick is the serious skin for serious splitpush sessions. Shop has it, grab the Obsidian chroma while you’re there.

Skip it if you dont play Yorick. Simple. But for the one-tricks grinding top lane, been spamming this in Diamond and I think its the best Yorick skin for competitive feel. Season 14 I had a 62% winrate on Yorick and I’m blaming this skin for at least some of that confidence. Top pick for Yorick mains, no question.
