Dark Cosmic Diana

First game I played with Dark Cosmic Diana was around 1 AM on a Wednesday, and I remember thinking Riot finally gave Diana a skin that matches the vibe she deserves. Not gonna lie, the cosmic horror angle on a moon-themed champion just works. The dark purple and deep space color palette hits different from her other skins, and the VFX overhaul makes every ability feel heavier than base. Locked this in immediately after it dropped in October 2024 and havent looked back.

What Dark Cosmic Diana actually brings

So the model itself is a full redesign. Diana’s armor gets this corrupted celestial treatment with fractured star patterns across the blade and shoulders. The crescent blade specifically looks like its carved from a dying star. Clean detail work.

VFX is where this skin earns its 1350 RP. Her Q arcs with this deep violet cosmic trail that leaves particle residue on the ground for a second after it lands. Might be overthinking it but the Q feels visually faster than base, even though it obviously isnt. W shields proc with swirling galaxy fragments orbiting Diana, and the shield break has this satisfying burst of dark energy. E pull feels meaty with the new gravitational distortion effect.

The R is the standout though. Moonfall gets this collapsing star animation where Diana dashes through what looks like a miniature black hole. Been spamming this in Diamond for maybe 40 games now, and the ult reset chains look incredible in teamfights. Dove their backline last Thursday in a ranked game and the triple R reset with those cosmic explosions had my duo losing it. The recall animation shows Diana channeling dark cosmic energy into her blade while constellations shatter around her. Solid work.

Voice lines stay base, no new VO. Standard for an Epic tier skin but still a slight letdown when the visual identity is this strong.

The Dark Star line and release context

Dark Cosmic Diana dropped October 23, 2024. Late into season 14. Su Fu and Kudos Productions handled the splash, they captured the vibe perfectly. The splash has Diana floating in this void space with corrupted constellations behind her, blade raised. Portfolio piece material honestly.

The Dark Star skinline is one of Riot’s most consistent themes. Kha’Zix, Thresh, Jarvan, Mordekaiser – the line has heavy hitters. Diana fits the cosmic corruption fantasy naturally because her whole kit revolves around celestial imagery anyway. Kinda feels like she should have been in this line years ago. (random aside: this splash has been my desktop wallpaper since release and I dont see that changing soon)

9 chromas total for Dark Cosmic Diana. Quasar is my pick – the red to purple gradient across the blade reads cleanly against the Rift and adds this sinister energy the base doesn’t quite have. Sapphire shifts the whole palette into deep ocean blue territory which works for the cosmic void theme. Pearl goes lighter, almost ethereal, which honestly clashes with the “dark” part of Dark Cosmic but some people dig it. Rest are fine but those three stood out across my games this season.

Should you buy Dark Cosmic Diana?

Real verdict: if you main Diana or even have her in your jungle and mid rotation, this is a strong pickup. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. The VFX package alone carries it past most of her catalog. Could be wrong here but I think this edges out Blood Moon Diana for the number two spot behind Firecracker, depending on your taste.

For Diana one-tricks specifically, the Quasar chroma bundle is worth considering. The base skin plus one or two chromas gives you enough variety to keep it fresh across a full season of climbing. Still in the shop, no urgency. Been maining Diana with this skin since it dropped and I keep coming back to it over Sentinel and Dragonslayer without question. Skip Lunar Goddess at this point – it aged rough. Dark Cosmic Diana is the Diana skin if you can only own one at this price point, and season 9 or 10 me would have killed for something this clean in her lineup.
