First time I saw Battle Queen Diana load in during a ranked game, I thought it was a Legendary. Not even joking. The splash alone had me thinking Riot dropped something bigger than an Epic, and then the VFX hit and I was sold before laning phase started. Been running this skin on and off since it dropped in December 2020 and it still holds up better than half the 1820 RP skins in my collection.
What Battle Queen Diana actually brings to the table
So the big thing here is the VFX overhaul. Diana’s Q arcs with this regal violet energy that reads way cleaner than base. Played maybe 40 games with it last month in Diamond and the crescent trail felt easier to track mid-teamfight, which sounds like cope but I genuinely think the contrast helps. Her W shield orbs have this crystalline look, deep purple with gold trim, and they pop against the Rift better than any other Diana skin I own.
E pull-in gets a subtle gold flash. Not massive but noticeable. The real star is the R though. Moonfall with Battle Queen slams down with this burst of royal energy, violet and gold shards radiating out. Looks clean in a five-man ult. Looked even cleaner that one game last Friday where I caught their Jinx and Lux stacked in dragon pit. Could be wrong here but I think the R hitbox even looks slightly different visually, wider spread on the particles.
Recall animation is new. Diana does this whole royal sword flourish thing, very on-brand for the Battle Queens line. No new voice lines, voice stays default. Thats the one downside for me. A queen-themed filter would have pushed this into must-buy territory for every Diana main. Still, for 1350 RP the VFX package carries hard enough.
The model itself goes full armored royalty. Purple and gold plate armor, crown motif on the blade, flowing cape detail. Riot leaned hard into the chess-queen aesthetic and it works. Compare it to something like Lunar Goddess Diana which mostly just recolors things. Battle Queen feels like a different character walking onto the Rift.
The Battle Queens line and where Diana fits
Battle Queens dropped December 10, 2020. Late season 10 into preseason 11. Francis Tneh and West Studio handled the splash, and they cooked on this one. The composition puts Diana front and center with the blade raised, very regal, very “I will engage on your backline and there is nothing you can do about it.” Perfect energy for a Diana splash.
The Battle Queens skinline was one of Riot’s more interesting experiments. Chess-inspired royalty mixed with combat. Diana, Katarina, Janna, Qiyana all got skins in the set. Kinda feels like Riot wanted to do a prestige fantasy line without calling it that. Diana fits naturally because her whole kit is about diving in and committing, which reads well against the battle queen concept. Not sure if its just me but Diana might be the best executed of the set. Katarina’s version is solid but Diana’s VFX have more personality.
No chromas on this one. Zero. Which is a bummer honestly because a Ruby or Obsidian variant would have gone hard with the armored aesthetic. (Random aside: I keep hoping they retroactively add chromas to older Battle Queens skins but Riot seems to have moved on from the line entirely.) Shop has it, permanent availability, 1350 RP standard Epic pricing.
Should you pick up Battle Queen Diana?
Real verdict: this is a top three Diana skin. Been maining Diana with this equipped for two seasons now and I keep coming back to it over Sentinel and Firecracker. The VFX clarity is genuinely good for gameplay, not just cosmetic fluff. In my Diamond games specifically, being able to track your own Q arc cleanly matters when you’re trying to proc passive in a messy teamfight around baron.
1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX across the full kit, solid recall, strong model redesign. The missing VO hurts it slightly and the zero chromas situation is rough. But the base skin colors are already clean enough that I dont feel like I need variants. If you play Diana at all, even as a secondary pick for mid or jungle, this is worth the lock-in. Skip it only if you already own Dark Cosmic or Heavenscale and literally never rotate skins. For everyone else, especially Diana one-tricks climbing through ranked, Battle Queen is the skin. S-tier Diana cosmetic, real talk though I might be biased because season 11 Diana jungle was where I hit Diamond for the first time and this was the skin equipped.
