Battle Queen Rell

Rell launched straight into the Battle Queens skinline and honestly I think that was the right call from Riot. Most champs get a default skin period before anything interesting drops, but Rell skipped that awkward phase entirely. Locked this in day one back in December 2020 and it stayed in my rotation for months. The armored queen fantasy just works for a champ whose whole identity is ripping apart metal and slamming people into the ground.

What the skin actually brings to the table

Battle Queen Rell swaps out the scrappy resistance fighter look for full royal knight energy. The armor gets this regal purple and gold treatment that reads way cleaner than base Rell on the Rift. Not gonna lie, the mounted form looks significantly better here. The horse armor catches light differently, more polished, more deliberate.

New VFX across her kit. The W crash down has this burst of violet energy that feels heavier than base. Her E tether between her and the ADC gets a golden thread effect that actually makes it easier to track in teamfights. Played maybe 40 games with this skin last season and I noticed I was more aware of my tether range just because the visual reads so clean. Could be placebo but thats my experience.

The recall animation is where Rell kneels and gets crowned. Simple concept, executed well. Fits the Battle Queens theme without being over the top. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, which is fine for an Epic tier skin at 1350 RP. The base voice acting by Laya DeLeon Hayes already carries enough personality that I dont think new lines were necessary here.

Q poke in lane gets purple particles instead of the default metallic grey. Small change but it makes harassing in bot lane feel more satisfying. The engage combo of W into R in a teamfight looks genuinely impressive with the Battle Queens VFX. Purple and gold explosions everywhere. Your team notices.

The Battle Queens line and release context

Battle Queen Rell dropped December 10, 2020. That was Rell’s actual champion release patch, so this was her launch skin. Bo ‘chenbowow’ Chen handled the artwork and they captured the vibe perfectly. The splash has Rell in full royal armor with her lance forward, commanding presence.

The Battle Queens skinline hit during preseason 11. Katarina, Diana, Janna, Qiyana all got skins in the same set. Kinda feels like Rell got overshadowed in that lineup because everyone was losing their minds over Battle Queen Katarina at the time. But for support and jungle mains who picked up Rell, this skin was the obvious grab.

8 chromas total. Coronation is the standout for me, pink and teal combo that reads completely different from base. Obsidian goes full dark knight which pairs well if you’re the engage frontline peeling for your backline. Tanzanite deepens the purple into something more sinister. Rest are solid but those three cover most vibes you’d want. (Random aside: Coronation Rell is my pick whenever I duo with my Thresh one-trick friend because the colors complement each other weirdly well.)

Should you pick up Battle Queen Rell?

Real verdict: this is Rell’s best skin if you started maining her early. The competition wasnt exactly fierce back in season 11. Star Guardian and High Noon came later and gave her more options, but Battle Queen still holds up. Been running this in Diamond for years and the VFX clarity genuinely helps during chaotic engage situations around dragon pit.

1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New particles, new recall, clean armor design. Not sure if it’s just me but the mounted form auto attacks feel smoother with this skin. Probably identical frame data but the animation sells the impact better. Shop has it, permanent availability, no vault nonsense.

If you play Rell as your go-to engage support this is worth the price. Skip it if you only pull her out for counter picks in specific comps – maybe wait for a sale in that case. But for Rell mains specifically, Battle Queen set the standard early. Last Tuesday I had a game where I five-man ulted in the bot lane river and the purple explosion just hit different. That’s the kind of moment where the skin earns its keep. Worth 1350 RP if you main Rell, full stop.
