First time I saw Infernal Mordekaiser was back in like season 2, maybe season 3. Some top laner on the enemy team locked it in and I remember thinking the model looked genuinely threatening compared to base Mordekaiser at the time. Not gonna lie, the skin aged but it still has a certain raw appeal that newer 520 RP skins dont always capture.
What Infernal Mordekaiser actually brings
So this is a Standard tier skin at 520 RP, which means you’re not getting a full overhaul. Voice lines stay base. No new recall animation. But here’s where it gets interesting: there are VFX changes on this one, which is rare for the price point. The fire effects on his abilities lean harder into the molten aesthetic than base Morde ever did.
His Q slam has this heated glow to it. Subtle but noticeable. The passive shield ring picks up warmer tones too, and when you’re walking around with it active in a teamfight the whole thing reads cleaner against the Rift than you’d expect from a skin this old. Could be wrong here but I think the E pull also has a slight color shift, more orange-red than the default purple.
Model-wise Mordekaiser gets full volcanic armor plating. Dark iron with cracks of magma running through. The mace especially looks good. Played maybe 30 games with this skin last month in Diamond and honestly the auto attack animations feel crisp with the updated weapon model. Might be placebo. Probably is. Still counts.
(Random aside: this skin’s mace design is lowkey better than some of his more expensive options.)
The Infernal line and where this fits
Infernal Mordekaiser dropped February 24, 2010. Early League days. Viktor Titov and Grafit Studio handled the splash, and for that era it holds up decently. The Infernal skinline is one of Riot’s oldest thematic collections. Champions like Nasus, Diana, Akali, Varus all got Infernal treatments over the years, and the line ranges from budget skins like this one to full 1350 RP epics.
Mordekaiser fits the Infernal fantasy naturally. Dude is already a hulking armored revenant. Swap the color palette to fire and brimstone and it just works. No chromas available on this one, which makes sense given the price tier. What you see is what you get.
Shop has it permanently. 520 RP, been sitting there for over a decade. One of those skins that quietly exists while everyone argues about which Legendary is the best Mordekaiser skin.
Should you pick up Infernal Mordekaiser?
Real verdict: if you main Mordekaiser and you’re looking at his skin catalog, this is the budget option that actually delivers. 520 RP feels fair for what you get. The VFX touch-ups push it above what you’d normally expect at this price. Been running this in ranked when I get bored of Dark Star and honestly its a solid rotation pick.
Now obviously if you have the RP for PROJECT or High Noon Mordekaiser, those are objectively bigger upgrades. New VO, new recalls, the whole package. But for a player climbing through Gold or Plat who wants something different without dropping 1350+, Infernal does the job. Last Tuesday I had a game where I ulted their ADC into the death realm and the fire effects inside looked genuinely clean. Small thing but it matters when you’re spamming Morde in solo queue.
Skip it if you already own two or three Mordekaiser skins. Worth it if Infernal is your first pickup or you just like the aesthetic more than the edgier options. Best budget Mordekaiser skin, and I dont think thats even debatable. Real talk though, the Infernal line deserved a visual refresh years ago. Maybe someday.
