Old God Mordekaiser

First game I played with Old God Mordekaiser, I ulted their Jinx in a teamfight near baron pit and the whole death realm just felt different. Not sure if it’s just me but there’s something about the eldritch horror aesthetic layered onto Mordekaiser’s kit that makes his R feel more threatening than usual. Locked this skin in around patch 13.20 and honestly havent looked back since.

What the Old God theme does to Mordekaiser

The model rework here is substantial for an Epic. Mordekaiser gets this massive antlered, tentacle-infused armor that screams ancient deity. The color palette leans deep green and bone white, pulling from the broader Coven universe but staying distinctly monstrous. His mace looks like something that grew out of a corrupted forest floor.

VFX got a full pass. Q slams down with these dark tendrils spreading from the impact point. W shield has an organic, almost living texture to it. E pulls enemies through what looks like a rift in reality, green-black energy crackling around the edges. Been playing this in Diamond for two seasons now and I still notice small particle details I missed before. The passive especially – that swirling aura around Mordekaiser reads so clean in lane.

New recall animation too. He channels this ritual energy, summoning eldritch symbols around him. Fits the Old God fantasy perfectly. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, but the existing Mordekaiser voice pack is deep enough that it doesnt feel like a loss. Fred Tatasciore’s performance carries across skins anyway.

Real talk though, the R is where this skin earns its price. The death realm gets that Old God filter and trapping someone in there feels like dragging them into your domain. Played maybe 40 games last month in the top lane splitpushing with this and every ult felt cinematic.

The Coven line and where Old God Mordekaiser fits

Released October 11, 2023. Exia Xiaotong and West Studio handled the artwork, and they absolutely nailed the eldritch god vibe in the splash. Mordekaiser standing among twisted trees with that crown of antlers, mace raised. Banger splash.

The Old God skins sit within the Coven universe as the ancient deities that the Coven witches worship. Mordekaiser fits this role naturally. He’s already a death-bringing overlord in base lore, so making him a primordial god barely requires a stretch. Kinda feels like Riot designed the Old God concept with champions like Mordekaiser in mind from the start.

9 chromas total. Obsidian is my personal favorite, turns the whole skin into this dark, almost void-touched version that reads incredibly well on the Rift. Profane does something interesting with a teal and magenta split that shouldn’t work but somehow does. Amethyst leans into the mystical purple angle if you want something closer to Dark Star territory. (Random aside: Obsidian Old God Mordekaiser is genuinely my desktop wallpaper at work, the color scheme is that good.)

Is Old God Mordekaiser worth 1350 RP?

Straight talk: this is top three Mordekaiser skins. Could be wrong here but I think it edges out Dark Star for second place, sitting right behind the High Noon Legendary in terms of overall quality. The VFX work alone justifies the Epic price point.

1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New model, full VFX overhaul, new recall, strong thematic identity. For Mordekaiser mains who want something that feels imposing without paying Legendary prices, this is the pick. Last Tuesday I had a game where three people in post-game chat commented on the skin. That never happens with his older options.

Skip this if you already own High Noon and only play Mordekaiser occasionally. But if you main him or even have him in your top lane rotation for season 14, Old God Mordekaiser earns its spot. The Coven universe treatment just works for this champion. S-tier Mordekaiser cosmetic, especially with the Obsidian chroma equipped.
