Been running Veigar on and off since season 3, and Veigar Greybeard is one of those skins that just makes me smile every time I lock it in. Not sure if it’s just me but there’s something about a tiny evil yordle dressed up as a wizard from a fantasy tabletop campaign that hits different at 1 AM on a Tuesday. The whole concept is Veigar cosplaying as a wise old mage. Gandalf energy. Except he’s still stacking AP and deleting people with R. Classic.

What Veigar Greybeard actually changes

Real talk though, this is a Standard tier skin at 750 RP, so temper your expectations. You’re getting a model swap and a new splash. Thats it. No new VFX on the Q, no updated W particles, no fancy recall animation. Voice lines stay base. The staff becomes a gnarled wooden thing that looks straight out of a D&D prop shop, and Veigar gets a long grey beard and robes that make him look like he wandered out of a Tolkien book.

The hat changes too. Instead of the usual dark mage look, he’s got this floppy wizard hat that droops to one side. Played maybe 40 games with this skin last month in Diamond and I kept noticing how the silhouette reads differently in lane. Teammates pinged me thinking I was a different champ once. Might be overthinking it but the robes do blend into certain map textures around mid.

No new particles means your Dark Matter W still drops with the default purple effect, and Event Horizon E cage looks identical to base. For 750 RP in 2010 that was standard. You weren’t getting particle updates on skins this cheap back then.

The Rift Quest line and when this dropped

Veigar Greybeard released September 8, 2010. Early League days. Season 1 vibes. The Rift Quest skinline is Riot’s tabletop RPG fantasy theme, and Veigar fits the archetype perfectly. Tiny mage with delusions of grandeur roleplaying as an even more powerful mage. The irony writes itself.

Rift Quest has some bangers in it honestly. Veigar Greybeard holds up as one of the more charming entries in the line even if it’s mechanically simple. No chromas available for this one, which is a shame because I think a dark blue or crimson recolor would look clean. Shop has it permanently so you can grab it whenever. (Random aside: I use this splash as my Discord avatar in my ranked flex group and nobody has questioned it once.)

Should you pick up Veigar Greybeard?

750 RP feels fair for what you get. Could be wrong here but I think this is one of the better budget Veigar options if you’re not trying to drop 1820 on Final Boss. For Veigar mains climbing through ranked this season, it’s a personality pick. You lock this in and your team knows you dont take yourself too seriously, which honestly helps the mental in solo queue.

The competition in Veigar’s skin catalog is steep. Final Boss exists. Astronaut Veigar exists. Elderwood is right there. But none of those cost 750 RP, and sometimes you just want the cozy wizard fantasy without spending a full Legendary budget. Been spamming this in my Diamond games for two weeks straight and the Q poke in lane feels the same, the ult still one-shots the backline ADC at full stacks, and the little beard bouncing around during teamfights genuinely makes me play better. Placebo probably. Worth it for Veigar one-tricks on a budget, skip it if you already own Final Boss or Elderwood.
